Colts Fans OFFENDED By protesting Players Could Get A Refund Under Indiana Lawmaker's Proposal

An Indiana state congressman has introduced legislation aimed at forcing the NFL's Indianapolis Colts to offer refunds to fans if the team's players kneel in protest during the national anthem before home games.

Rep. Milo Smith said his proposal would compel the Colts to offer refunds in the first quarter to any fans offended by players' attempt to raise awareness about inequality and police brutality by refusing to stand during the anthem - something Indianapolis' players have not done since September 24.

Beginning with now-former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the 2016 NFL preseason, many players have generated nationwide controversy with the peaceful demonstrations over the last two seasons. In October, Vice President and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence left a Colts game after several members of the visiting 49ers took a knee and locked arms during the anthem.

President Donald Trump later claimed that Pence's exit, which cost Indianapolis Police $14k, had been 'long planned.'

Trump also suggested that fans should walk out of the stadium if players protest.

Smith, a Republican from Indiana's 59th district, is willing to take that a step further by giving the fans a chance at a refund.

another approach would be for the govt to stop all subsidy funds and tax subsidies, deductions....stadii financing ... and then repeal the monopoly protection the govt gives the league...let them all compete in the free market ...and other teams will be able to start up for a change!
right now, the govt is financing and protecting these antiAmerican basturds and we taxpayers should not be forced to do this

We can kill of the parasitic NFL without special laws. Personally, I’d prefer that the government stay out of it - keep people from buying tickets in the first place, rather than providing marginally forgiving fans a safe haven.

Perhaps the most hated sports owner since Walter O'Malley. The way he moved the Colts out of Baltimore was cowardly. The way he ran his organization made John Elway WARN him against drafting him. When Irsay drafted him anyway, Elway decided to play Minor League baseball until Irsay worked out a trade with a team more to Elway's liking. One of the best career moves ever in pro football.

I’ve read that subsidies to sports stadiums and the like are actually counter-productive. Stadiums generate tax revenue. But that money, if spent at local businesses instead, would have generated even more tax revenue.

Agree, but then there’s the issue of publicly funded stadiums.

Had the NFL wanted autonomy, they should have paid their own way.

I think this bit, the fact that taxpayers making far less, are the ones funding these palaces is the bit that really makes people angry at these babies.

That's interesting, and totally believable that stadium funding can be counterproductive. In Cleveland, I get the argument that having MLB, NBA, and NFL teams here is an essential piece of keeping major city status. On the other hand, it's only good if there are restraints.

The new scheme is that gov is helping with financing to encase the Q in glass. That's not going to help Cleveland and it certainly isn't helping the rest of Cuyahoga Country to have OUR money spent like that. The more fans are inside full time for refreshments, buying gear, etc, the less they're spending at businesses in the surrounding area. Besides that, the area around the stadium becomes a ghost town when there isn't a game.
