Why I Confronted Jeff Flake on a Plane
CNN ^ | Fri December 15, 2017 | Ady Barkan

I've spent my career as an advocate for economic justice, fighting for basic fairness for working families. It wasn't until this past year that I began fighting for my own life.

It's that fight that led me to get arrested protesting the Republican tax plan in Washington, and that led me into debating it with Sen. Jeff Flake at 30,000 feet in the air on my way home.

I never thought I'd be in this position. A year ago, I was healthy, taking morning runs on the California coast and looking forward to a new life with my newborn son, Carl.

Hey asshole Ady Barkan. Don’t worry. Medicare will be there for you till your last breath. You won’t have to worry about Death Panels either. But the rest of us will pick up the cost while you do your BS SJW stuff.

Congrats and let me be the first to say that I hope you at least made provisions for your family to pay for your funeral instead of the taxpayers.

You and I are of much the same mindset here.

I date the corruption of willingness to adhere to constitutional principles back to the Teddy Roosevelt administration with his welding of his domestic big stick on the Evil Capitalists. Things were pretty cut throat back then.

Then Wilson came along, followed by FDR who was like the previous two on steroids (politically speaking)

Throw in the radicals of the Sixties rising to power, finally ending up with eight years of the Obama administration. Guys like Reagan and Coolidge were sprinkled in until...here we are today.

No...I am right there with you on this. I have probably written variants of your post dozens of time, all with exactly the same flavor.

I was not one of those people who thought Trump could not be President because he had no political experience. I think those people who think that have no idea what a President is, nor what a successful businessman is. They think things are so complicated for a President that a simpleton businessman could not possibly handle it.

They said Obama could do it, but a successful businessman like Trump couldn’t? What a joke.

But I didn’t know much of anything about Trump. I didn’t watch television then, so the only things I thought I knew were that he was rich, he was successful, he was New York/New Jersey obnoxious, he had something to do with land, hotels, and casinos, and he had funny yellow hair. And, oh yeah, he had that television show, “The Apprentice”. All I knew about that was “You’re Fired!” which I liked the attitude in some way.

So when I heard he was going to enter the race, I didn’t count him out at all. And since I didn’t care for the candidate mix, I accepted him fairly early. And I began to find more about him, such at the Larry King interview with him in 1987 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8wJc7vHcTs) His discussion of the state of affairs in the Persian Gulf is great to hear, because this is the guy who is President now.

I defy any conservative to watch that first five minutes of that interview and not conclude this is absolutely who America should have leading it right now. Just from what he said in 1987. A lot of us here on FR are locked into that same mindset, and he feels like one of us, philosophically speaking.

Thanks for the video. I hadn’t seen that one. I watched a few when he decided to run for President and I was sold on him then.

He’s the same person now as he was then. I knew the enemedia was horribly mis-characterizing him. They did the same thing to President Reagan while I was a teenager in the 80’s. That led to me, being what they call today, red-pilled.

Because of President Reagan, I come to learn and love our Constitution and what it stood for. I’ve been suspicious of our corrupt government and media for a long time. It did help to hear the horrible stories my grandmother told, who escaped a marxist-type government, and the tyranny they had to face before they escaped here when my grandfather was hired to work for the railroads. That was 100 years ago this year.

Many Americans have never faced the loss of freedoms. Little do they realize just how much the communist-types have been deceptively trying to undermine them for a long time. I never wanted to have to tell my future generations what freedom was like, as pointed out by Ronald Reagan. I thank God every day for President Trump and to keep him safe. I do believe he is, and will slowly open many Americans eyes. I’m seeing that more and more on social medias these days and hope and pray it continues. Thanks again.

I noticed that too. He looked forward to a new life with his newborn son. If he were married, wouldn’t he say a new life with his wife and newborn son? Seems like he doesn’t want us to know what his family situation is.

Who knew there were so many liberal deficit hawks? They all seemed to be in hiding during the Obama years, when our deficit really skyrocketed.

The almost one TRILLION dollar "stimulous" was re-upped every year by not passing a new budget, instead just using baseline budgeting. This is how Obama added almost 8 TRILLION dollars to the debt. No one made a big deal about it. Where did all that money go?

Now dems, and even *&%#!'s like Flake are all worried about adding to the deficit. Give me a break.

Amazing isn't it? Or actually, par for the liberal course. The only difference between Flake and a Democrat is he has a phony "R" after his name.

Re: “But the Republican tax plan would throw [my] insurance into jeopardy. The bill would raise the deficit by more than $1 trillion, automatically triggering cuts that would devastate our country’s safety net.”

It would have been helpful if the author had explained those “automatic” cuts.

I’m not aware of any automatic cuts that will affect Medicare, Social Security Disability payments, or Social Security Survivor Benefits.
