I worked in a 6 person Christian radio station in Albany. We were all “so devout”.
The station manager who thought she was the holiest wore short skirts and no undies because her husband liked that.
The angel-voiced producer came in with a hangover every morning.
The star DJ was Catholic and that would have disgusted the audience so that had to be hidden.
The engineer was a whack job who would stand on the desk in the other studio and moon the DJ during prayer time.
The saleswoman was a homeless alcoholic with serious mental issues.
And instead of playing what was playing on the station in the office the DJ and engineer blasted Queen and the like.
Fun times. No, really, FUN times. We were not awful people by any means, just not quite as nice aa we made out.
Not to mention the regional sales guys were absolute snakes from the pit of Hell. The advertisers took advantage of the audience because the Christian listeners wanted to support the station, so they were treated like fish in a barrel. I even got rope-a-doped by one of them.
ANYWAY, THAT is when I learned to not think of personalities as wondrous creatures who represent their true selves in the public image. I’d never realized the depth of deception before that.

Yes, it was. Aretha Franklin sang God Bless America and other guests were Martha Stewart, Tom Cruise and Gilbert Gotfried and a lot of others. It wasn’t that funny as I recall. My husband doesn’t remember Scarborough being there either.

I don’t remember. To be honest, it wasn’t all that memorable. Neil Simon was there, I remember. It’s a Friar’s Roast which is notoriously dirty. It was once a stag party until Gloria Allred sued and the Club was opened up to women - which is how I ended up there. Most of the members at the Friars are garmentos.
