The Latest: Senator foresees obstruction of justice case

WASHINGTON-The Latest on the removal of a veteran FBI agent from the special counsel's investigative team (all times local):

1:20 p.m.

The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee says the panel is starting to see "the putting together of a case of obstruction of justice" against President Donald Trump.

Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," California Democrat Dianne Feinstein said the evidence is coming partly from "the continual tweets" from the White House. Trump is focusing renewed attacks on the FBI, and on the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, two days after ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn agreed to cooperate with the probe as part of a plea agreement.

Feinstein said she believes Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey came "directly because he did not agree to lift the cloud of the Russia investigation." She added, "That's obstruction of justice."

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is warning Trump to tread cautiously, telling CBS' "Face the Nation" that Trump's comments about ongoing criminal investigations come at his "own peril."

“Oh they want him to stop tweeting so bad.”

They really, really do.

They are legitimately concerned he will undermine the faith the American people have in the National Institutions.

And the rule of law.

Unbeknownst to them, we have none and Trump; is merely echoing OUR concerns that all the institutions of government and law are utterly corrupt and therefore now illegitimate.

That’s the stuff Trials and Hangings on the Capitol Steps are made of.

That’s where all the morning TV shows were going with the arguments from the Left on obstruction of justice.

Remember a Federal Judge ruled that statements he made during the campaign amounted to later Official policy after the election by implication.

I don’t know why he chooses to jump into these murky waters with his tweets. Stay positive and on message, Mr. President

The POTUS can fire the FBI director because he doesn’t like the tie he wore or because it’s Tuesday or just because. This is a whole load of hog dung.

Feinstein said she believes...

Rock solid right there. Good enough for me. Shut down the investigation. We have a lock.

meh...

Wild exaggeration of what Feinstein said, which was in turn exaggerating to begin with.

A president commenting on ongoing potentially criminal investigations certainly could prejudice a case and make such a job harder, but ‘obstruction of justice’ has a specific legal meaning.

If Trump’s comments are ‘obstruction’, then so are the public comments of people like Feinstein and Comey accusing Trump.

After an extended camp-out in the famed “cloak room” senators start seeing all kinds of things.

first of all... the head of the justice department... “the president”, can’t obstruct justice, by definition.

Especially since he has been told multiple times, by multiple people, that HE is not under investigation.

As chief executive he has complete and TOTAL latitude to prosecute or not prosecute whoever he wishes.

Obama choose not to prosecute DACA illegal aliens... does that make him guilty of obstruction of justice? or did he like Trump simple exercise his rights a head of the executive branch to use his own prosecutorial discretion?

“That’s where all the morning TV shows were going with the arguments from the Left on obstruction of justice.”

The left is trying to give new definition to the crime “Obstruction of Justice”.

And their intent is to twist a transgression of the broader, originally unintended crime, newly defined, into a:

“High Crime or Misdemeanor”.

Not because they believe they can impeach Trump, but because it sounds good with their base and they like it as a bludgeon in the political arena.

But it’s kinda a nerf bat. And they have no idea how silly they look.

What caused old Dianne Feinstein to get all pasty faced after that briefing WRT intel earlier this year like she’d seen a ghost. C’mon, Dianne, what was it?

Good question.I say she was shown evidence Obama was spying on Democrats.......as well as Republicans.

REFERENCE---Democrats Schiff and Feinstein were invited by Trump to peruse the intel. They reportedly came away shocked at the spying revelations Trump personally unveiled to them....

...... b/c they were shown proof Obama spied on Democrats?..................

Trump knew Democrats would be sap-happy to see Obama spied on Republicans....no biggie to them. So it's more than likely S and F were visible shocked....b/c they saw evidence of Democrats spied upon.

Spying on Repubs is bad enough....but Obama/Rice spying on their own party? The revelations could be earth-shaking....lots of intel on Democrats' offshore financial activities, in Tahiti, French Polynesia, the Caribbean, Central America, and the like.

And remember......S and F ended up saying "they still haven't seen proof of Obama spying on Trump."

The old Bill Clinton parsing routine.

The easiest obstruction of justice case to be made would be against Clinton, Comey, Mueller, Rosenstein, McCabe, etc, etc.

Dianne is really reaching. There MUST be something we can use to impeach President Trump.

With a Republican House and Senate I don’t think President Trump is going anywhere. Especially with the way the economy is moving.
