The false-statement charge, brought under Section 1001 of the federal penal code, stems from Flynns conversation on December 29, 2016, with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak. At the time, Flynn was slated to become the national-security adviser to President-elect Donald Trump. The conversation occurred on the same day that then-president Barack Obama announced sanctions against Russia for its interference in the 2016 election. It is believed to have been recorded by the FBI because Kislyak, as an agent of a foreign power, was subject to monitoring under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Mueller has charged Flynn with falsely telling FBI agents that he did not ask the ambassador to refrain from escalating the situation in response to the sanctions. In being questioned by the agents on January 24, 2017, Flynn also lied when he claimed he could not recall a subsequent conversation with Kislyak, in which the ambassador told Flynn that the Putin regime had chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of [Flynns] request.

>Flynn had $1M+ legal bills according to a report I heard today. He was out of money and had to take out loans on his house. Mueller had the upper hand in that regard...
That’s how the feds always win. You can’t fight that which has an endless budget. American justice is a joke.
Just a guess, I think he may have been paying over $1K a hour for lawyer fees..
Any idea how much in attorney’s fees this has cost Flynn already? Flynn isn’t some multi millionaire swamp creature like Susan Rice. In his situation I would consider coping a plea to save my retirement.
That’s the real crime here. The O’muslim treason regime using the corrupted alphabet groups to go after political enemies.
I urge everyone to click on the link and actually read the article.
The entire Kenyanesian Usurpation was a crime against the Republic.
You are NOT under oath when interviewed by the FBI or any other law enforcement agency. Whatever law was passed, and whenever, to make it a crime to lie to the FBI is blatantly unconstitutional because it turns our 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination upside down. So yes, if you are ever in a situation where law enforcement wants to interview you, say absolutely nothing except to ask for a lawyer to represent you.
A dumb guy like me living in fly over country is really confused by all this. The incoming National Security Advisor was tasked by the President-Elect of the United States to talk with the Ambassador of a Country we are not at war with almost 2 months after the election. And this is a problem somehow? Isn’t this SUPPOSED to happen?
Yep it is supposed to happen unless Trump is President.
OK... not intending to throw a straw-man argument into this, but...
From all indications, Flynn didn’t actually talk about anything forbidden or nefarious... yet he’s being twisted into a plea...
While Hillary Clinton lied boldly and repeatedly (and has yet to come clean) regarding multiple major crimes and issues... from her illegal email server use, then ordering it destroyed to hide evidence... to her simplicity in Benghazi and arms smuggling... to a whole host of other issues she has brazenly lied about (including to the FBI and to Congress). Yet she’s still not facing any charges at all.
Bil lied to a Grand Jury and to the FBI while still President... and walked away unscathed.
Flynn had a conversation that really was a great big “nothing burger” and he’s facing a penalty with his plea...
Something stinks and it smells like swamp water...
Was he a strong NT? McCarthy is one of the few sane people left at NR, along with Victor Davis Hanson.
The Logan Act makes it criminal for any unauthorized citizen to negotiate with any foreign power against the interests of the USA.
When Flynn did so, Trump had been elected but not sworn in. Thats the kicker.
Then, Flynn lied to the FBI about those contacts, another crime.
Additionally, Flynn was not registered as a foreign agent, and thats against the law also, to negotiate on behalf of a foreign power.
The FBI did wiretap a few calls between Flynn and the Russians but there was only very minimal incrimination.
But, Kislyak and other Russians were reporting back to Russia, contacts of a much more substantial nature that were clear violations of the Logan Act, that happened before Trump was sworn in.
So, the FBI figured out that Flynn was meeting with the Russians in person to avoid FBI eavesdropping, thats what Flynn lied about. Instead of about 4 conversations with the Russians, there were about 30, mostly face to face, no records.
In fact, the Russians agreed to change their tactics at the UN because of an agreement with Flynn and his Trump contacts, before Trump was sworn in, thats against the law, the Logan Act.
Additionally, Flynn was not registered as a foreign agent, and thats against the law also, to negotiate on behalf of a foreign power.
Whomever, on the Trump transition team was Flynns handler is in big, big trouble. If Trump was told about any of these goings on before he was sworn in, he was obligated to tell the Justice Dept./FBI.
If not, thats conspiracy and/or obstruction of justice. It may seem petty, because if they had waited just a couple of weeks, all these contacts would have been completely legal.
