Democrats' success in this month's elections was bigger than expected, and was fueled in part by strong opposition to President Trump...
We asked Republicans and Democrats what the off-year elections could mean...
1. Good news for Democrats ....The Democratic base was energized [in Virginia]. The 2008 Obama coalition of millennials, minorities, single women and affluent educated suburbanites...]
2....can the lessons of Virginia work in states like Missouri and Indiana? ....there were limits to the Democratic victory in Virginia. They got their own coalition out, but they didn't make inroads with the Trump vote....
3. Democrats need a message that resonates outside of the suburbs In many states next year, Trump will not be the radioactive factor he may have been in Virginia this year.
4. Republicans are bracing themselves ....when a president's approval rating drops below 50 percent, his party loses an average of 40 seats. So Republican operatives are telling their clients who represent suburban seats and those in districts that Hillary Clinton won in 2016 to get ready, raise a lot money, and pay attention to their constituents.
5. The solution for Republicans is GOVERN! Republicans say their main task is to show that they can govern. They need to pass the tax bill and make sure the government doesn't shut down. What they can't control is the president and his Twitter feed both of which loom over the 2018 campaign.

It’s a welfare state now filled with gibmedats and other less than self-sufficient humans.
NC is not far from behind either.
Mara, dear .... the vote in VA was fueled by the ironic and obscene anti-Gillespie ad put out by the “Latino Victory Fund.” If racism is your thing, this was your ad!!
I worked at the polls on election day. To say Hispanic and minority voting was up would be to minimize what went on. I’d appreciate someone’s doing a turnout analysis as to Hispanics/Blacks/Muslims/ Whites compared to prior VA gubernatorial elections. Also, I’d sure like someone to see how many non-citizens managed to get registered to vote, and did vote.
Oh, the great irony? The ad showed ‘children of color’ running from a scary truck with a Gillespie bumper sticker and Confederate flag, boys grabbing a little girl in her hijab, “run, run...” As the ad was running on TV, Sayfullo Saipov, a Muslim refugee granted entry to the US under an idiotic ‘random drawing’ program meant to increase our “diversity’ (as if we don’t have enough), rented a truck from an American company and drove it into a NYC walking/running path, killing 8 and injuring 11 others. After mowing down walkers/runner over a mile’s course, Saipov jumped out of his truck shouting “Allahu Akbar” and later insisted on hanging an ISIS flag in his hospital room (who’s picking up that hospital tab?)
So, if racism sells in ‘18 and the Dems and their supporters continue this line of political discourse, Mara may just be right. Especially when conservatives choose to stay home instead of voting for an imperfect R candidate on the ballot.
Hey Mara, check with Charlie..oh wait.
This is proof that those at NPR are using mind distorting drugs.
Stop funding to socialist democrats PBS / NPR propaganda with taxpayers dollars .....NOW !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Broadcasting_Act_of_1967
https://www.npr.org/about-npr/178660742/public-radio-finances
When one looks at the 9% and 5% federal funding then “federal and state funded” colleges and universities money laundering more to PBS/NPR in the 25 to 30% level as well as Federal funding to “local NPR/PBS” stations versus the PBS/NPR corporation who in turn get that federal funding indirectly from those individual stations in the form of “subscriptions” ....... around 75% of this socialist presstitute propaganda arm of the polidiot parties funding is from TAX PAYERS dollars.
That's something you don't see everyday.
Billy Jeff's baby momma is impartial if nothing else.
We're doomed!
Virginia was a GOP self-inflicted wound.
Even the RED WAVE of 2016 & TRUMP couldn't win Virginia!
And then they quiet their supercilious npr voices, growl at the doorman, go grab their vegan pizza, and kick their rescue dog after they park their prius and secretly flip through grindr even though they are straight.
Gillespie wasn’t an ‘imperfect’ candidate.
He was a hard line Anti-Trumper.
An imperfect Republican candidate may very well have made it.
As it was we had a Democrat.
Missouri is going to depend on the Republican candidate. McCaskill got lucky the last time with Todd Akin. Will lightning strike twice?
Where’s the barf alert?
They could add another 10 million votes in the blue states and it wouldn’t affect the electoral vote one iota.
Fine. I hope you’re happy with Northam and possibly a Democrat controlled House of Delegates.
Seems Mara is back on the sauce.....
I’m sorry, but I know I’m a teen, but what Democratic victory? I didn’t see any wave. Chris Criste caused NJ to go from a Stupid RINO to a Marxist, but it was not a wave morons!!
In their dreams.
