The Tidewater area is big, and it’s not what people think it is. It’s the same thing when people say, “San Diego is a navy town,” which means the Dems win it 60-40 instead of 70-30.
If I’m a Republican pol in Virginia, the thing that terrifies me is what happened in Loudoun County and Prince William County. They are the two huge counties slightly to the West of Fairfax and Arlington. Fairfax and Arlington are heavy Dem. Loudoun and PWC have traditionally been narrowly Democratic. And you can get Republican representatives and delegates out of those counties.
The Republicans were utterly decimated in those two counties last night. With their population growth, if this trend continues, Virginia will be a mini version of California in 20 years where no Republican has any hope for statewide office and the rural part of the state is ruled by their urban counterparts.
