Limbaugh: Trump's comments on NFL 'starting to make me nervous'
The Hill ^ | October 11, 2017

Posted on 10/12/2017 2:36:29 AM PDT by SMGFan

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday voiced concerns about President Trump's comments on NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, saying Trump should not have the power to dictate who can kneel during the anthem.

"There’s a part of this story that’s starting to make me nervous, and it’s this: I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. That’s not where this should be coming from," Limbaugh said on his show. Limbaugh said he believed Trump's motives were "pure," but he argued that the president's actions were unhelpful in the broader debate on players kneeling.

"Trump is continually tweeting — I know what he’s doing, and I understand why he’s doing it, and his motives are pure; don’t misunderstand. But I don’t think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued.

"We don’t want the president being able to demand anybody that he’s unhappy with behave in a way he requires," Limbaugh added.

Rush did not imply that Trump shouldn’t have done this.

I think that's exactly what he did when he used the word "dictate." Limbaugh was inferring dictatorial behavior when he used that word, and we don't tolerate dictators in the United States.

That's why he said he was "nervous" and that he was "uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. I don’t think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued."

It’s called the bully pulpit. He used it effectively and it was his right.

“NOW he has a problem with it?”
Rush is a JERK.

Rush’s controllers got a hold of him and told him to back off a little. Remember Rush is an elitist, GOPe.

I was Rush’s biggest fan. Not anymore. He showed his true colors not supporting Trump during the election cycle. He is “controlled” by someone.

Talk radio is DEAD anyway. It won’t be long before people say “Rush who?”

President Trump is using the Bully Pulpit as a way to show middle America that they are not alone, and that all they have to do is work together to win against the politically correct movement.

Bingo.

Limbaugh, solidly GOPe and a Bushie, has had a horrendous time since balancing his show on the Establishment NeverTrump/ProTrump Populism fence.

He falls off from time to time.

... perhaps these professional athletic teams should remove the N from the NFL and just be “FL” -— thus removing their obligation to observe our patriotism. They can’t have it both ways, it’s one or the other. However, I won’t be watching any overpaid professional sports. I prefer to go out and cheer for hero’s who are busy saving lives everyday — and they comparably are grossly underpaid. Why do we pay athletes and actors million dollar salaries but only pay a first responder, who’s performing CPR on someone’s chest and is saving another humans life, a meager salary?

I used to listen to Rush back when there wasn’t any other source of news but once the internet opened up and I discovered Free Republic I quit listening

He is all over the place on every issue

And even after dumping on Dope Smokers for years he gets hooked on pain medication knowing full well he is supposed to be a conservative Icon

Rush was hardcore anti-Trump even after the convention.

You lie.

As a long time listener I know that Rush has always made it a point not to express his support for any political candidate.

Trump said something to the effect of don’t you wish the NFL execs would suspend or fire those sons of bitches who disrespect the flag on NFL time

Perhaps that’s in some way dictatorial. Perhaps not

If the paying public would understand what the Anthem and the flag represent they themselves could do their civic duty and dictate to the NFL they’re not going to continue past offense #1 back in August 2016.

Somebody has to dictate that disrespect for the flag will mot be tolerated or this will get way out of order

That’s just the nature of the flag -any flag

The media will get everyone to point and blame but the problem starts with the NFL putting up with this. And then the fans allowing it.

People can run around saying that we as a nation have progressed and patriotism is what anyone says it is but it’s simply not true

The flag must always be revered Kaepernick and his stupid followers have the right to move to a different country but they cannot say they are not disrespecting the flag. They do not have the right to make up their own facts

Kaepernick’s girlfriend inspired this whole mess. That’s who people are defending in their quest to be lazy football spectators

“It worked. The NFL is caving.

NOW he has a problem with it?”

I believe Rush has freinds in the NFL. Ex players, and probably some inside of some ownerership. I can’t recall for sure but I thought he was chummy with Steeler’s owners.

Anyway, I’m throwing darts but I wonder if he is conflicted between two things he cares about

Rush likely got a call from a friend that owns an NFL team (free sky box tickets?) who complained about Trump ‘threatening’ them.

This is a wicked unsubstantiated charge meant to impugn Limbaugh's character.

It's one thing to say that Limbaugh shouldn't voice what he feels without further reflection. But it is entirely beyond the pale to start floating undemonstrated allegations of him being bought off by something as unsubstantial as football tickets.

But that is web -- it can on occasion provoke the worst in people. And that trail will haunt them.

I admire Rush almost more than anyone in the communication business, but his comments about President Trump’s influence over the NFL was a stretch to say the least and I fear it fueled the fire of Trump’s enemies.

Frankly, Rush is no friend of Trump! He was anti-Trump during the primaries. And, he always talks about Trump supporters as if he isn't one. I heard the remarks yesterday and thought he was fueling the flames of anti-Trumpness!

Thank you for posting full article which does, if read objectively, show that Rush was correct and a true conservative wouldn’t disagree with his thoughts one bit.

Rush claims be is right 98 percent of the time...

That is not correct.

I have heard him claim 3x9s in accuracy: 99.98 percent.

Rush was hardcore anti-Trump even after the convention. Many here got tired of his insults towards Trump and his supporters. So much so that we turned him off and no longer commented on the Rush FR thread. I guess Rush doesn’t think Trump has 1st Amendment rights. Rush returns to form.

You've said it much better than I. I was so incensed by Rush's anti-Trump rhetoric during the primaries, and his insults of every Trump supporter that called, that I cancelled my 24/7 and quit listening to him. I've just recently started listening again, and like I've always said, Rush refers to "you Trump supporters" and never, ever "us Trump supporters". Beware of el Rushbo!

This is a wicked unsubstantiated charge meant to impugn Limbaugh's character.

Rush has pretty much done that on his own! And, yes! He was very much anti-Trump during the primaries! Insulted Trump supporters at every turn!
