It’s almost as if winning wars isn’t even on the agenda anymore.

I just don’t think this is a great idea. Men are generally chivalrous and will want to protect the women, which may compromise their combat readiness, which could, in turn, put them in harm’s way.

I am not a soldier, and am a woman, but that is just my two cents. :)

Call me old school or whatever, but I’m not real comfortable with this.

I’m not former military but I try to support those in the field by advocacy.

Am I off base here?

Does this slow down others who are considerably more physically capable? Does it reduce our efficiency? Am I being overly concerned?

How much PC is involved here? Are military leaders urged to talk up the female abilities?

I just want the best folks on the line, and our forces to be as physically formidable as possible.

If the women can do the job at the same level the men can, I would be a lot more comfortable with it.

Fire and remove every single officer promoted under obama or Clinton. Purge every single position possible and install Christian conservatives.

Umm, can one of you help me get the SABOT off the ready rack?

Forced road marches will stop this nonsense. March 25 miles at almost a trot carrying a LMG or a mortar baseplate...

On any given day, upwards of XX% of women are non-deployable due to being pregnant.

Not counting the one who get pregnant prior to leaving after notification of deployment

or get pregnant while deployed and get to come home early.

BIG morale issue with deployed troops. And not going to get any better with adding more women - ask the Navy how well that has worked out.

I went through OCS in 1987 with women in the class. Some, very few, might be able to hack it but I think women in combat arms would have an adverse affect on the men. Also, we need to ask ourselves a very important question: Are we so desparate that we have to have women fighting? What does that say about our society? I think it's fine for women to serve in support roles I they want but not combat or MP. It's time to bring back the separate Women's corps - the WACS, WAVES, etc.

What has been the real world experience during this decade plus of "colonial" war?

Here is the critical question that these PC bozos are not asking:

“How does having women in combat increase our ability to kill people and break things?”

Watch “Band of Brothers” or “the Pacific” and then ask yourself if women can be combat infantry soldiers.

Just watch “Cops” when a woman police officer has a confrontation with a perp. I’ve never seen one time that the woman officer could handle a male perp that is out of control! Just ridiculous!

Go to YouTube and look up the TED-X talk featuring Lieutenant General Mark Hertling's talk on Obesity as a national security issue. Its 10 minutes long.

You will find out why the military is considering women for combat positions.

We simply cannot recruit enough fit 18-20 year olds to fight a war.

I have sat in many briefings about this exact subject. It's not necessarily that they want women in these positions, its the inability to recruit and retain qualified males.

I am 100% conservative, Until we double military pay, we aren't going to get the quality people we need.

In certain limited or specialized combat roles, women can and have served with distinction.

I don't think there's anyone out there who can deny that there were some Russian women who were extremely effective as snipers during WW II. Some of them, such as Lyudmila Pavlichenko ("Lady Death") were as deadly as they come.

From 1942-1945: Soviet women snipers—The female terrors of the Eastern Front:

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union in June 1941, hundreds of thousands of Soviet women sprang to join the war effort, enlisting as nurses, clerks, cooks — and snipers.

Over 2000 women were trained as sharpshooters and deployed to some of the most dangerous battlegrounds, far from their companies and required to lie still for hours to avoid detection and await the perfect shot.

Stories of their lethal nature and sacrifice abound — former kindergarten teacher Tanya Baramzina notched 16 kills on the Belorussian Front before parachuting behind enemy lines, where she killed another 20 before being captured and executed.

Additionally, as we all know, there were at least a couple of women who served in combat roles in the American Revolution, including at least one who enlisted as a man, Debora Samson, was wounded in action twice, and was ultimately granted a soldier's pension.

While I know that there are many who are vehemently opposed to women serving in combat, and go on and on about how much weight a woman can carry, etc., I have long since dispensed with the hysterical notion that it should never be considered—especially considering the fact that there are at least some historical cases where women did do an exemplary job.

In specialized armor roles, such as perhaps in tanks or other situations which might favor a very short or small-bodied soldier, maybe there is some place for women as well.

I'm sure that there are at least a few exemplary female soldiers who can perform at an equal or higher level than male infantry who are minimally fit for duty.

Thus, in light of historical fact, and in cases where it makes sound military sense, I no longer have a problem with women serving in combat, and dogmatic opposition to the idea is becoming increasingly passé, IMHO...
