>> I remember when Mike Huckabee was Dead To Everyone. His weight, then his weight loss, then his weight ... his evangelical religion ... he was “soft on crime” ... he was “open borders” ... he was a “Huckster” because of his recurring candidacies ... I remember further back, when he was considered to be doing pretty well as Governor of Arkansas, and he was also praised as a band leader. One just can’t keep up. <<

I remember it well. I was a Huckabee supporter here back in 2008 and endlessly bashed for supporting him over the less conservative Romney, McCain, and Giuliani.

Huckabee was endlessly called Elmer Gantry, Huckafraud, Huckster, Nanny-Stater, Bill Clinton with an 'R' next to his name, etc., etc., and a photo op of his family was endlessly ridiculed with how fat and stupid they all are, including his daughter Sarah. All that from a guy who called "the FReeper Governor" while he was in office and headlined two George W. Bush inauguration with nothing but praise from this board.

Now, of course, we're back to square one where Huckabee is once again a respected "conservative statemen" since his daughter is Trump's White House Press Secretary, and we're told that "only liberals" would say anything nasty about the Huckabee family.

The Schizophrenic nature of this board is very odd at times. I wonder if all the anti-Huckabee commentators from 2008 would have the balls to tell Sarah Huckabee what they REALLY said about her dad when he was running for President.

Exactly. It’s just a weird phenomenon. Public figures are gushed over one day, non-persons the next day, and then back on the pedestal by Tuesday. Don’t dare miss a memo!

Yeah, you’re right.

I prefer accurate and through assessments to love/hate based on what the person has done in the last 5 minutes, though “what have you done for me lately” is very important in politics.

I will say about Huck though that he used to hawk a fake diabetes “reversal” supplement that’s main ingredient was CINNAMON, a sign of bottom basement lack of character (or complete idiocy if he actually believed in what he was hawking), I’m not big on “character” but I find it appalling he would do that. He also sold out to his name to other people hawking garbage including something about the bible having a secret cancer cure or something.I also hear he’s a huge jerk.

The 2008 field was atrocious, I give everyone a pass. I picked Romney over McPain, Huck had no chance in IL so I didn’t consider him.

Just because the daughter is doing well doesn’t change my opinion of Huckster. He WAS an awful Governor who all but destroyed the AR GOP. If you’ll remember, when he left office in 2006, all the party had to show for was a declining minority in the legislature, not a single GOP-held statewide office and only the sole GOP Congressman, John Boozman, in the district that had been held since 1966 (indeed, in 1966, there were 3 Republicans in high office, Hammerschmidt in the House, Winthrop Rockefeller as Governor and Footsie Britt as Lt Governor), and 40 years later, just Boozman.

His Democrat successor did more to vault the GOP in AR to majority status by accident than Huckster did on purpose.

I’ll never forget, too, his berating Christians — in church, no less — that they were wrong (if not evil) for opposing his flooding Arkansas with illegals to work as de facto slave labor in the Tyson food plants. That’s only one of many things.

Again, his daughter might have her head on straight, but Huckster himself will always be a phony who has his head straight up his ass.
