Police probe Canadian car attacks, stabbing as 'acts of terrorism'

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canadian police said they were investigating violent attacks in Edmonton on Saturday night as “acts of terrorism” after a man hit a police officer with a car and stabbed him and then later struck four pedestrians while driving a second vehicle.

The officer and the other victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of multiple injuries, police in the western Canadian city said.

Canada’s CTV News said the officer was expected to recover, though further details on the condition of the victims was not immediately available.

The Edmonton Police Service said in a statement it believed the suspect acted alone, although the investigation is in its early stages. An Islamic State flag was found in the Chevrolet Malibu that struck the officer, CTV reported, citing police.

Police said the suspect, believed to be 30, crashed the car through a barricade and hit the officer at about 8:15 p.m. local time, sending him flying 15 feet into the air and onto to a police cruiser. The suspect then jumped out of the car, stabbed him and fled the scene, police said.

Later that evening, police at a checkpoint identified a man driving a U-Haul vehicle as the owner of the Malibu.

The suspect fled the scene and deliberately hit pedestrians as police pursued him, sending at least four people to the hospital with injuries, authorities said.

Police arrested the suspect after the vehicle flipped over during the pursuit.

After all the investigating, will it matter at all whether the police conclude it is terrorism. THUST ME HERE; IT IS TERRORISM. You do not need a PhD to know that Islam is the cause. Something has to be done about insane Islam.

Here I was hoping to read, “The suspect was shot and killed as he resisted police efforts to apprehend him”. No such luck in Canada.

No, there were many who voted against the Liberal government and its policies, but not enough. There will be a day when the current govt gets thrown out but until then, innocents suffer due to govt policies! Kind of like the 8 years under Obama. One day, one day soon. Can’t come soon enough...

Ironically a few days ago, a judge of the Islamic faith sentenced a man to five months in jail. The man had scrawled on a park bench, the words no more muslims. It was in an indelible black marker and could not be easily erased. The judge continued on in the usual vein about "hate". It has been pointed out that the sentence was for defacing public property. Five months imprisonment- and authorities in Canada beg graffiti artists to stop. They even provide special screens for legal graffiti.

Hoist with our own petard.

Muzzle loving Trudeau made a faux statement condemning terrorism, without stating who is responsible for this and most other attacks, and in the next breath rolled out the asinine platitudes about "diversity is our strength" and "we will not be divided". Wake up Trudeau? Islam already has us divided from them as infidels who deserve subjugation or death. This is on you. 😡

Although investigators are currently baffled for a motive for this incident they have definitely been able to rule out any racial or religious motive and are certain that it was not a terror attack. Canadian Government officials are moving quickly however to prevent any backlash against Muslims and plan to ask Parliament for more funding for programs to help combat Islamaphobia and bias through increased public education and stiffer penalties for hate speech.

I’m sure this talking point will be ready to go out tomorrow since they always have it in the can ready to go after every terrorist attack.

"Canadian police said they were investigating violent attacks in Edmonton on Saturday night as “acts of terrorism”...

Nonsense. Everyone knows there's no terrorism in Canada. They love Islamos, and welcome them with open arms.

That's why there's no such thing as Islamic terrorism in Canada, so these suspicions are obviously unfounded.

Your comment on Justin Trudeau noted.

I would also like to mention the hostages taken by terrorists about two years back. They were volunteer workers overseas. Two were Canadians and one Norwegian. Prime Minister Trudeau said in answer to the demand for ransom, that Canada will not pay ransom money.

The Norwegian had the money paid and lived. The two Canadians were beheaded. The plausible reason was that more Canadians would then be at risk of kidnap. This for quick monies. I still cringe at my surly shout at the television. It was to the effect that the caveat, was if unless it was Justin's handsome head at risk. Yet, I believe the remark from me was right- though uncharititable.
