Senator Bob Corker announces plans to leave the United State Senate.
The following is a statement from him:
After much thought, consideration and family discussion over the past year, Elizabeth and I have decided that I will leave the United States Senate when my term expires at the end of 2018.
When I ran for the Senate in 2006, I told people that I couldnt imagine serving for more than two terms. Understandably, as we have gained influence, that decision has become more difficult. But I have always been drawn to the citizen legislator model, and while I realize it is not for everyone, I believe with the kind of service I provide, it is the right one for me.
I also believe the most important public service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months, and I want to be able to do that as thoughtfully and independently as I did the first 10 years and nine months of my Senate career.
Serving the people of Tennessee in this capacity has been the greatest privilege of my life. And as I spent the month of August traveling across our great state, I was reminded that we live in a unique place full of people who care deeply about the direction of our country.
I am grateful to the people of Tennessee for the opportunity to serve my state and country. I have been fortunate to do so with an extraordinary staff, and I want to thank them for their incredible dedication. I know that we will continue to have an impact for the remainder of our term, and I look forward to finding other ways to make a difference in the future.
Finally, I want to thank my wife, Elizabeth, and our family, who have made many sacrifices in allowing me to serve. Nothing I have done would have been possible without their love and support.
On second thought . . . may the door cause a concussion on your way home.
Repeal the 17th Amendment.
Great, now who can we run as his replacement?
Oh come on, you really think any of them would ever release that information?
Check ou Tennessee Star website for info.
McCain was the keystone.
Once it started to be clear he is NOT going to be around much longer, the GOP-e in the Senate started to fracture.
After Strange looses in AL, it is only going to get worse for them.
“I got mine...and you got yours...”
Hallelujah!!!
We are too far out to say Flake will lose. The way things are going the GOPe with the Chamber of Commerce will spend tens of millions of dollars and fund a third candidate designed to siphon off votes from Ward and the DNC will help. It happened here in Virginia during our last gubernatorial election when, the day after the election, the news came out that the Dems funded the third party candidate who took enough votes to allow the carpetbagger Mcauliffe to win.
Another blow for the Uniparty and Rat Ryan!
I still ain’t tired of these victories President Trump !
He was a worthless piece of shit who corrupted both the letter and intent of the US Constitution in order to get Obama’s Iran amnesty passed.
Good riddance.
Blackburn, Green, and Carr are the main three conservative possibilities to replace him. Blackburn and Green probably won’t run. Carr will but is the weakest of the three. If Haslam (a moderate) runs, he would probably stand a good chance of winning unless Blackburn opts in; but she will likely wait until 2020 and run for Alexander’s seat.
As a Tennessean all I can say is, “Thank God”. He has been such a disappointment.
Thank You, God!
Senator Corker was named among other things as a big enabler of the Iran nuclear deal of Obama.
The Corker Bill changed the threshold from one-third NO to stop the deal to two-third’s NO in the Senate.
Rush Limbaugh discussed this on his radio program as being about lifting sanctions so companies like Boeing and Airbus could sell airplanes to Iran.
Those deals are still in the pipeline even though there’s tough talk and sanctions talk against Iran.
Looks like he's gonna go all McCain kamekazi on us.
Now if we can just nominate a real conservative. And get Alexander to retire or be replaced. He’s the worst RINO in the Senate.
“over the next 15 months... I want to be able to “
that part of his declaration ..... gives me pause
Yeah that would work...biggest thing is to get them out of the DC area and back home where the experience that benefit of their past governing genius!
I remember reading where two huge lefties McGovern & Bonoir were horrified about all the federal red tape that came with starting and running a small business. Both are quoted as saying if they had known things would have been this bad they might have viewed things differently.
