You are only right in point of volunteer numbers after most got draft notices, but NOT DRAFT NUMBERS sent!

During Vietnam war 2,594,000 served, and 2,215,000 were sent draft notices. So only 379,000 were true volunteers! I lived it, I know!

Most who received draft notice decided to volunteer to get what they wanted out of schooling, and not be infantry! These are National Archive Statistics. So volunteer statistics are not TRUTH about men rushing to volunteer...geez! Answers.com will give you number of actual personnel who served: 2,594,000. and breakdown by group, the website below will give you National Archive statistics on drafts. Do the math!

So use your statistics, but you are wrong on what actually happened. I read those articles that Vietnam War soldiers volunteered, and I laugh....they weren’t done doing the math to find out what actually happened.

At Answers.com
Approximately 2,594,000 US Servicemen served in country during the Vietnam War. 1,736,000 were US Army 391,000 were US Marines 293,000 were US Airmen 174,000 were US Sailors (this figure includes the US Coast Guard). Approximately 2,594,000 US Servicemen served in country during the Vietnam War.

So yes, you can be dead right, and dead wrong at same time!
