As rookie catcher Bruce Maxwell, who earlier in the day profanely bashed President Donald Trump on Instagram, became the first major-league player to kneel during the National Anthem on Saturday before Oaklands game at the Coliseum. The product of a military family, Maxwell placed his hand on his heart and faced the flag during the anthem while taking a knee before the game against Texas. Teammate Mark Canha placed his hand on Maxwells shoulder.

Shame on crowd if they did not walk out!
Agree.
Key takeaway: now even the Anthem is becoming a Trump vs Anti-Trump symbol. This kneeling isn’t even about cops & blacks.
My kid is the president of his college ultimate frisbee club. If the aerospace engineering gig doesn’t work out, he’s got a backup.
Last month, the Ultimate association sent him some disks to evaluate.
I suspect that if a NASCAR driver pulled this stunt, he’d be spun out and in the wall by lap 5
This guy’s a 26 year-old rookie with a goofy hairdo and a bunch of tattoos all over him. No surprise that he waits until the last couple of weeks of a losing season to pull this kind of stunt.
Do they understand a large part of their support base do not find this entertaining?
Since when are ‘regular’ people able to ‘make a political statement’ on employer time?
The customers are restless...
Seems the NFL is fine with it.
George Steinbrenner may have been an A-hole in some ways, but he never would have put up with this. He didn’t even let his players wear long hair or beards!
The Oakland A’s average a miserable 18,000+ fans per home game this season (there are hockey teams that do better than that, and they play in arenas that barely even hold 18,000 people), so it’s not like there were very many people there to see this today anyway.
America needs you, Rick Monday.
I'd be very curious to hear what ol' Rick Monday had to say about recent events.
He's probably a classic liberal, but I wager he'd rip a few a$$holes if asked.
The guy is a scrub who makes half a million a year, and yet he complains.
Evidently he can’t tell the difference between the catching position, taking a dump or sitting for the national anthem.
Send the bastard down to “A” ball. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the salary difference at that level.
Tomorrow it would be fitting if the fans started booing when he knelt, stopped while anthem played, then turned around and walked out after the anthem AND Leave all the team gear behind...(That would be an expensive sacrifice but would prove a real point).
Then ‘brain-fart’ can pay for all that food that was cooked up for the crowd.
The teams are showing such arrogance that if that guy in the front row (with hand over heart) where to organize a walk out he would get ‘arrested’ for attempting to riot.
My feeling about all of this is that we should ignore them, and not give them an audience. Let them protest to empty stands, and to airwaves that are not received.
He looks like an idiot. I don’t even get the kneeling thing but it is a pathetic copy cat gesture. The left would love to shut down our sports for various reasons. They are on track carrying out Obama’s extended transformation. I know for over a 100 years America has slowly gone down the toilet but it is no surprise the steady increase to our demise has come about since 9/11. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
Hey rookie, F Yourself.
What an asshole, he thinks that putting his cap over his heart shows respect? Standing at attention AND cap over heart will do, just fine.
