Yes, you’re correct. Just as we criticized Obama for exceeding his authority in establishing DACA (because it’s a legislative matter), neither Sessions nor even Trump has the authority to decide whether sanctuary cities get Federal dollars. Congress does, and they should make sure the sanctuary jurisdictions get not one red cent of Federal money for anything.

What is needed is for a municipal treasurer to run into the Mayor’s office announcing the federal deposits were not made yet. We’re out of money!

No warning, just stop the money. Make them sweat

That’s right. https://www.grantsnet.justice.gov/programplan/html/Home.htm

Really shocking, ain’t it? Chicago, the home of “Who sent ya?” AKA as Chicongo or Chiraq due to its inability to control its criminal class (and it’s unwillingness to accept federal help—”Just the cash, please”) is angry to ‘learn’ that federal funds, here from the DOJ, are subject to conditions?
What a revelation, that provision of federal grant funds are like a carrot and stick to a donkey. Shocking that pols attach riders to bills that have nothing to do with the bill.
From the site:
“Please note the following disclaimer: All Grant Program Plan and Forecast data provided by the U.S. Department of Justice is subject to the availability of appropriations and potential legislative changes of statutory requirements. The information provided by DOJ is based on projected operational plans and may be updated frequently, including the addition, substitution, or cancellation of projected solicitations without advance notice. DOJ, in addition to Grants.gov, provides an e-mail subscription service, upon request, to be notified when solicitations are officially released.”

This is just more “resistance” and I’m fed up with it. They had eight years to show what they could do, and Obama & Co. left things in worse shape than they found them. Particularly in his old stomping grounds, Chicago.

Leinenweber said in his 41-page ruling that Chicago had shown a “likelihood of success” in its arguments that Sessions exceeded his authority in imposing the new standards for the federal grants.

So Sessions does one thing and apparently screwed it up. Doesn’t he have the authority to arrest anyone blocking Law Enforcement. Each Sanctuary City can have their authorities charged as soon as they break the law. Official Misconduct and Obstruction of Justice come to mind. Take away alot of big paychecks and people will stop these childish actions. Sessions should have done this on day one.

Exactly. If District Judges are going to make rulings country wide, then we have no need for all the district judges. Cut their numbers in half — or more.

They are emboldened and are trying to goad PDJT into ignoring their unconstitutional rulings, because such a move would give the traitors in Congress what they think would be cause for impeachment.

Judges are out of control, but get away with it because in the political chess game, they are positioned to be able to do it without consequence.

there must be a loop hole, a way that he can defund the cities who receive federal funds.

Some asshole judge in Kansas (in the 90's?) decided that a school district's poor results were discriminatory and due to under funding, so took it over, raised taxes by judicial fiat, told the school district what to do, spent something like a billion dollars of tax payer money, and ultimately MADE THE SITUATION WORSE (real surprise there, huh?).

The specifics escape me, but the generalities above are, in outline true. Talk about extra constitutional - that judge's skeleton should STILL be swinging from a rope. And the public officials who let him get away with it should be, too, for that matter.

with no fanfare or hoopla, the money should stop. All the cities can do is sue and while the matter is litigated for three years or so, the cities will suffer their just deserts

Canada has a 75 age limit for all federal judges. It actually ensures a regular rate of turnover.

A federal judge has absolutely no say over how the federal government spends its money. That’s what Congress does.

If we had a sane and decent Congress, judges like this would soon be seeking employment elsewhere, like the restaurant service industry.
