A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration's rules requiring so-called sanctuary cities to help enforce federal immigration laws in order to receive funding.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber issued a nationwide preliminary injunction against the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced new rules governing DOJ law enforcement grants, The Chicago Tribune reports.
The city of Chicago sued the Trump administration last month over the DOJ’s threat to withhold those grants from so-called sanctuary cities, which refuse to help federal authorities enforce immigration laws.
Leinenweber said in his 41-page ruling that Chicago had shown a "likelihood of success" in its arguments that Sessions exceeded his authority in imposing the new standards for the federal grants.

I would like to see the rule codified in law, as opposed to done by administrative fiat.

How can a judge that is not on SCOTUS issue a nationwide anything?
Start ignoring some of these rulings just like these judges ignores the President’s authority.

IMHO, this judge is likely at least partially senile. 80 years old and on “senior status” since 2002.
But, but aren’t sanctuary cities defying Federal immigration laws? Oh, that’s right, metropolitan areas are now city-states run by feudal lords.
I suppose that this judge is not overruling HIS authority? Is he higher up the totem pole than the President of the United States? It’s time for rope and NO mercy.
I am sure when grant requests come from sanctuaries that they could be held until non sanctuary grant requests are processed and after grant funds are all used. Then send the sorry grant funds have run out letter.
