President Trump praises bipartisanship, urges unity

Democratic congressional leaders emerged from a meeting with President Donald Trump Wednesday vowing to pursue an agreement protecting immigrants who were brought illegally into the U.S. as children from deportation.

In a joint statement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said they and Trump had "agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."

If this is true, I have lost faith in Trump.

Maybe he's still playing games, but I want RESULTS!

The Dreamer legislation has been going on for 12 years. The only criteria President Trump has ever had....if you want to be a citizen....you have to go out and come back legally. In other words...no amnesty.

Let's see what they have to say. Congress has to hammer it out.

If you read between the lines....they have to draft this and pass it into law.

So, problem number one comes up with the House. You need 219 votes. The Democrats would need twenty-odd GOP members to cross the aisle. Presently, I would have doubts that this will occur.

In the Senate...the Democrats might find eight GOP members willing to walk across.

They can draft all they want and pass all they want in the Senate, but it won’t matter. I think the Trump strategy is to reach a stage where he says....you know...we could deliver the House votes if you just agree to stage one of the Wall funding (say a 750-million down-payment) and agreement to our tax restructuring deal. The Democrats will sit there in shock...they can’t reach a conclusion on this. And the longer you allow this to drift into 2018 election season...the more likely that Trump increases the cost of this deal (maybe half of the wall).

He’s dragging both groups into the stage there if they don’t accomplish anything significant by spring of 2018....that will be 18 months of zero action and accomplishment. Voters will grasp that achievement.

Paul Ryan just announced that congress will fund the wall this week.

The “dreamers” already have work permits. This so called deal will not give them anything that they don’t already have.

Some of you crybabies need to get a grip.

Well...I will add this note. If you go and look at the East German Wall...it was always defeatable. With guard patrols, mined fields in front of it....it didn’t matter...folks would figure out the angle...sometimes even digging under it, and reach the other side.

The “dreamers” already have work permits. This so called deal will not give them anything that they don’t already have.

They can't have work permits under Simpson-Mazzoli, which is the existing law. NO ONE may work in this country without a valid Visa or citizenship. So-called "Dreamers" have neither. The President has no authority to change that. Even the six month "extension" allowed by Trump is illegal.

Trump has repeatedly signalled he wants a legal solution for "The Dreamers." There already is one: they must go home and apply to be US citizens, then go to the back of the line.

Some of you support-Trump-at-all-costs people need to get a grip. Meeting with the left weakens the positions of conservatives in Congress by encouraging GOPe/RINO's to believe they can get a better deal with the Democrats than they can with their own party. It's a strategic blunder of major proportions.

Here we go. We will now get several months of spin while the Trump-is-playing-9D-chess-you-can't-possibly-understand-him crowd propagandize about why keeping any of his major campaign promises really isn't all that important.

The wall is the one impediment to border crossing that the next Barack 0bama cannot dismantle simply by issuing his own EO. And the Berlin Wall very much did impede immigration into the West. People had to go to extraordinary measures to defeat it.

Spokespersons for both Trump and Pelosi said that the wall remains a separate issue from this hypothetical agreement.

Lets not jump to conclusions about what comes down the road.

Ryan has said he intends to fund the wall.

Of course, McConnell will then block it in the Senate, who knows........

With respect to the wall, I was replying specifically to a poster who wrote, "well we really don't need a wall. Probably a waste of money anyway."

Concerning DACA, DACA is AMNESTY. Shall I reproduce Trump's tweets going back AT LEAST 4 years where he says there must never be any kind of Amnesty?

Yes, yes... revel in the pointless speculation...

It’s not “speculation.” He’s not “breaking bread,”negotiating, nor making agreements with the Freedom Caucus. It’s the Left. And while his apologists keep justifying his actions, he’s going to be further enambled and encouraged.
