Trump just took a giant step toward truly legalizing the Dreamers
NY Post ^ | September 5, 2017 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 09/05/2017 10:03:19 PM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

Even in our divided politics, it should be a matter of consensus that the president of the United States can’t write laws on his own.

That’s what President Obama did twice when he unilaterally granted amnesties to swaths of the illegal-immigrant population. The courts blocked one of these measures, known as DAPA, and President Trump has now begun the process of ending the other, DACA, on a delayed, rolling basis.

In a country with a firmer commitment to its Constitution and the rule of law, there’d be robust argument over how deal with the DACA recipients — so-called DREAMers who were brought here by their illegal-immigrant parents as children — but no question that Congress is the appropriate body for considering the matter, not the executive branch.

Instead, President Trump is getting roundly denounced by all his usual critics for inviting Congress to work its will. Obama came out of his brief retirement to join the pile-on. In a Facebook post, the former president said it’s wrong “to target these young people,” and called Trump’s act “cruel” and “contrary to our spirit, and to common sense.”

This is a lot of hyperventilating, even for a former president of the United States who must loathe his successor. Trump’s decision is a relatively modest way to roll back what is clearly an extra-legal act.

The president goes out of his way to minimize disruption for current DACA recipients. The administration will stop accepting new applications for the program but will continue to consider two-year renewals for recipients whose status is expiring between now and March 5.

This gives Congress a six-month window for its own solution before anyone’s status changes.

Looks like the program is already winding down.

what laws of the USA am I allowed to ignore?

This is all such insanity. Why bother having any damn laws at all? Oh that’s right, the law is only for whitey to follow...

Trump is already very squishy about this thing. Why??

Is it really too much to ask that our nation have immigration laws that are enforced?

How do illegals pay taxes anyways? Do they simply get to work and never file a tax return? Can I do that too?

Unreal... we have a GOP house, senate and WH and they act like they have no damn clue how to lead or drive an agenda. Pathetic.

Obama turned the US into a banana republic and right now there is a battle for the soul of the nation.

We don’t have anything but the illusion anyone we vote for will follow instructions.

All of them are co-opted once in Washington and just care about reelection.

They WANT cheap labor to keep wages down. Whites aren’t breeding so they want brown babies to replace the dying baby boomers.

Democrats want voters and low IQ/education people they can convince are victims to keep them voting for Democrats.

Republican party is controlled by the Chamber of Commerce types who want CHEAP LABOR.

Murdoch (owner of Fox news, Daily Mail etc - supposed conservative) is on the board of an open borders group.

CHEAP LABOR. Consumers. Population replacement. Reliable Democrat voters.

The American working class is screwed and has been for some time now.

The President should have just ended Obama’s memo thus giving no time for congress to act.

This time I am rooting for congress to mess it up.

We don’t need an infusion of nearly 2 million dem voters.

How does Trump go from giving it 6 months to letting it expire, to now saying he wants it passed?

Shadow Gov’t laid down the law, by any means necessary.
Seems to happen every time.
If We the People want our country back, I suspect we’re going to need Plan B, whatever that may be.

Almost the same deal Reagan made and with the same result.

Let’s give a similar scenario to the children of American citizen lawbreakers. Let’s say you were born into a position of great wealth. All of your life you have gone to the best private schools, taken vacations to St. Moritz, drive a Maybach given to you for your 16th birthday, etc. Then the police come and haul away your parents for running a Ponzi scheme. All of your bank accounts are frozen, all of your assets seized including the Maybach. Your Aunt has to move you and your siblings into Section 8 housing. Why should the children have to pay for the sins of their father? Should they be allowed to stay in Sidwell Friends tuition free, keep the Maybach, get free hotel passes, etc.? After all they are just victims of circumstance and have lived like good law-abiding citizens. On the face of it it seems like a pretty stupid scenario but that is the position taken by Dreamer supporters.

Recall the very same government relentlessly lectured us about "overpopulation" and how birth control and abortion were good things for the last 45 years.

Odd how now they say we need more people.

Guess we were just the wrong color.

They will, one way or another. There are several eminently viable ways to accomplish that, whether Mexico likes it or not...

What beautiful Or, President Trump could have done it in a way that didn't subject him to quite as much political fallout and isolation—by allowing Congress to legislate—Congress being the Legislative branch, and all.

What an ordeal! Congress will actually have to perform its Constitutional duty—writing the nation's laws—if it's going to help out the "Dreamers". Oh, the humanity...
