The governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands has ordered the territory's national guard to begin seizing guns and ammunition from citizens in preparation for Hurricane Irma's landfall.

In an executive order signed Monday, Gov. Kenneth Mapp instructed Adjutant General Deborah Howell "to take whatever actions she considers necessary to carry out the assigned mission" of maintaining and restoring public order.

"The Adjutant General is authorized and directed to seize arms, ammunition, explosives, incendiary material and any other property that may be required by the military forces for the performance of this emergency mission," the governor said in the order.

The order went into effect Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.

If I remember right New Orleans tried this after Katrina and got slapped down hard by the federal courts. The big question, since the Virgin Islands is a territory and not a state, are the protected by the 2nd amendment?

“The big question, since the Virgin Islands is a territory and not a state, are they protected by the 2nd amendment?”

Half of American voters are convinced that foreign invaders deserve all benefits of the US Constitution....

So, no, AS USUAL, 2nd Amendment and other US Constitution “rights” are conferred on and denied to American citizens as individual law”makers” see fit.

(Do I need the /s?)

“The Second Amendment does not just apply to the continental United States and Hawaii,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “It also applies to territories under U.S. jurisdiction. The issue is a fundamental civil right, not only to possess a handgun, but also to use firearms for self-defense purposes, which is currently banned in the Northern Marianas.”

A very stupid order, in violation of the U.S. Constitution. It also begs the question: why doesn’t the local national guard already have in its possession enough guns, ammo and whatever else it needs to function? Liberalism run amuck.

Now, now, now. I think we can all rest assured that all criminals, thugs, horn-swagglers, cattle rustlers, bush-whackers, thieves, slugs, robbers, home-invaders, murderers, rapists, looters, arsonists etc. will turn in any and all weapons they have in compliance with this new order.

Them being a territory does not exempt them from the Constitution.
