Administrators at The Evergreen State College have announced that the embattled school faces a massive $2.1 million budget shortfall due in part to a drop in enrollment, and the institution has already handed out some temporary layoff notices as officials grapple with balancing the books.

They’re facing the same problem that is killing the University of Missouri. That’s a “you” problem, to quote FOX Sports Radio’s Colin Cowherd.

Our present government supported “higher education” debt bubble is supporting many many thousands of left-wing professors and administrators, at colleges just like this one.

The bubble should be popped

Kill the Dept of Education, stop putting massive debt on to students for political indoctrination.

Evergreen “College” has been a moon bat stronghold going back decades. Nothing new here. Berkeley without the academic rigor, basically.

If you go and read through the whole landscape...this five-percent number lost in the fall enrollment at Evergreen wasn’t a big deal until they said that most all of the five-percent...were OUT-OF-STATE kids. They were the stupid ones paying 24,148 each. In-state kids were paying 6,678 each.

So the two-hundred kids missing from the fall campus....were paying 3.6-million dollars into the money bucket. Pretty substantial amount of money.

The senior lecture people will survive, but they are heavy cost item to the campus. If they’d let ten of them go...they could have kept fifteen to twenty of the lesser-tenured people.

But here’s the big deal about the math. Let’s say into the fall of 2018...that another 200 out-of-state kids don’t show up, and this stays as a permanent trend? You can figure at least 150 more people let go in August of 2018. It’s not really over....it just goes into the next round of budget shortfalls.

The “embattled” school. If they’re battling anything, it’s a consequence of their own arrogance.

Our son worked a summer at the golden arches when he was still in high school. He learned quickly why he needed to focus on studies and get a good education. It was a pretty amazing turnaround, actually.

Places like Evergreen exist in order for wealthy ultra-leftist parents to have a place to send offspring who weren't smart enough to make it into the Ivy League, a place where they can dump them for four of their most obnoxious years, and where they can be sure they will be indoctrinated properly into neo communism.

And unfortunately, it's pretty damn hard to find college that DOESN'T try to do that. Then the little mush heads graduate with a degree in ethnic studies and $75000 in student dept. Oh yeah, don't forget, no job offers unless and no job offers unless you got your degree in a STEM (an acronym for “Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics”), major.

College is simply an over-rated, expensive waste of time in 2017. So screw college. Consider learning a valuable trade for a lot less money and a lot more income.

That makes sense... as an out of stater, why should I pay $24,000 per year tuition when the illegal aliens are accepted as in-state residents and only pay $7,000 per year.

Duh... no wonder they are losing revenue!!!

This resembles affirmative action, which is actually reverse discrimination.

A ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy day. I’d like to see the whole place fold and the so-called professors find jobs suitable to their abilities - like riding along on the backs of garbage trucks or holding up cardboard signs at intersections saying “will work for food”

It’s rather telling that within about 2 semesters of lowered enrollment the school is that far in the hole. They should be audited, then shut down.

That is an excellent idea.

Higher education has become an embarassment to the nation. I wonder how foreign students feel about the nonsense? When the high paying Jap and Chinese parents stop shelling out six figures to these schools...

I work in finance. If you get your foot in the door...sky is the limit in pay, and no college education is required if you can sell ice to eskimos. Sales is and should be the highest paying job in the land. I make 6 figures several times over and never went to school, finished damn nearly last place in High School.

Higher education is a total waste of money AND time for 95% of all students.

‘Evergreen State College faces $2.1M budget shortfall, cites enrollment drop, issues layoff notices’

Perhaps the students should stage a riot and building take-over. It worked so well the last time.

Misleading post. There is no market for stenography in medicine. It’s all computer dictation. Nurses now require a BSN (usually 4 years). LPNs are almost obsolete.
