U.S. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters that President Donald Trump’s administration will win in Afghanistan by allowing the country to “be Afghanistan” rather than trying to “create a state in the U.S. image.” “Winning in Afghanistan is really aimed at allowing Afghanistan to be Afghanistan. As the president said, not to nation-build, not to create a state in the U.S. image,” said Gen. McMaster when asked about President Trump’s newly unveiled strategy to end the nearly 16-year-old ear in the country.
For years, Afghanistan has been plagued by various persistent problems, including a deadly heroin production and addiction epidemic as well as the centuries-old child sex abuse custom known as bacha bazi (literally “playing with boys”), among others. Afghanistan also suffers from endemic and widespread corruption that is funneling funds to terrorists and has contributed to the death of Americans.
In 2015, SIGAR revealed that the common practice of sexually abusing boys was punishable by death under Taliban rule, but it was “resurrected” after the terrorist group’s regime was overthrown by the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.

I see this so differently, and I may be wrong, but follow me on this. We are wiping out the Isis bad actors in Syria/Iraq so were do those that slip through go? Pakistan/Afghanistan... this is a wack-a-Mole operation via our spec operators to play the Orkin Man, and really eliminate the pest once and for all, or diminish them so they are manageable. The foreign policy leverage will ask them to change or we stop doing bizz with you. It took balls for PDJT to realize I can’t walk away from Afghanistan, but I can make my Mark in history by pretty much eliminating these douchebags. Gorka and Bannon were too doctrinal to see the long term picture, and that is ok too, sometimes these types are better off as cheerleaders rather than being on the field.

I strongly recommend reading Michael Yon’s commentary on Afghanistan after Trump’s announcement this week. This guy has spent a huge amount of time on the ground in the Middle East (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) since 9/11. I think his take is pretty spot-on.

I agree with you. Thinking about it, rejecting nation building translates to "let Afghanistan be Afghanistan". I deplore their customs, but it's up to them to define their culture. I've always thought it would make more sense keeping Afghanis from leaving their hellhole than trying to change them.
