Not surprised. NC is a "purple" state now. And the "blue" heart of it is in the Triangle = Raleigh/ Durham/ Chapel Hill, especially the campuses of Duke and UNC-CH (and its lungs are in Charlotte and Asheville).
Pity that the powers that be at UNC-CH didn't create and relocate the statue to a historic park to preserve past history, however unsavory, like the Hungarians did in Budapest a few years after the Iron Curtain collapsed. See …
