Navy Does Not Rule Out Intentional Act in Latest Warship Collision

The Navy has not ruled out an intentional action behind the latest deadly collision between a Navy destroyer and a merchant ship, the chief of naval operations told reporters Monday.

"That's is certainly something we are giving full consideration to but we have no indication that that's the case—yet," Adm. John Richardson, the CNO, said at the Pentagon.

"But we're looking at every possibility, so we're not leaving anything to chance," he said.

Asked if that includes the possibility the electronic defenses on the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain were hacked in a cyber attack, Richardson said investigators will look into all possible causes.

"We'll take a look at all of that, as we did with the Fitzgerald," the four-star admiral said, referring to another Navy warship collision with a merchant ship in June near Japan.

Learning navigation skills of the Sea of Nevada must have been exhilarating. Why a Navy training base in Las Vegas or was just a bit of sarcasm??

In the twenty years I served in the Navy, the term “sailor” referred to anyone in the Navy, enlisted or officer. The term “real sailor” implied you trusted him enough to serve on the same ship.

modern technology is good, but not as a human pair of eyes

Sixty years ago I worked with a retired merchant mariner.
He told me a Captain who had life long experience on the Oceans told everybody who would be on the bridge:
" If you see a military ship, give it a wide berth because you never know what they are going to do.'

Seems like good advice to this day. - Tom

So the Navy is going to put Captain Obvious in charge of this investigation......

Don’t tell me, the tanker captain that rammed, uh, accidentally hit our ship was Amish.

Officers are above reproach

There are exactly four people who bear primary responsibility: 1. OOD / conning officer- who is obviously a $4it for brains not to steer out of the way of the freighter 2. CO - for qualifying said OOD and for not supervising when in crowded conditions. If CO was conning at the time, then the others might skate if they were actually doing their jobs 3. XO for inadequate training of the officers 4. Navigator / Senior watch officer for allowing this OOD, who was incompetent, to stand watch in restricted waters.

How does a Navy destroyer get hit in the rear by a tanker going 9.2 knots?

Granted it was a typical morning rush hour into Singapore. But somehow the McCain got itself in the way of the Alnic MC, got hit, and 10 sailors are likely dead.

Check out the tracking video of the Alnic and others.

Remember the terrible explosion on the USS Iowa back in 1989? 47 sailors were killed.

Some Navy investigators believed it was a murder-suicide, and there was evidence of a homosexual angle to the crime. Some parties protested this finding loudly. I don't know if the truth was ever conclusively determined (or admitted).

Bradley/Chelsea proved that we have some individuals in the military who take it upon themselves to do stupidly destructive and traitorous stuff.

This assumes that our Naval electronics is so primitive as to be hackable. WE are not talking some navigation on an Iphone. We are talking the security of a Billion Dollar naval vessel and I can’t possible fathom any hackability what so ever. Something is systemically wrong in command and control of these 4 ships that have collided this Year.

Don’t know facts but its possible. I would suspect the chinese more. If we keep crashing ships near their disputed waters, it would make us look pretty bad.

The Iranians spoofed the GPS on the drone they got a couple of years ago. So it has been done before to an airborne platform. They have lookouts and surface radar, this should not happen.

The Navy has systemic problems that need fixed and more transgender training will not help.

“The Navy has systemic problems that need fixed and more transgender training will not help.”
Giving credit— the Trump administration has gotten those sicko transgenders out as a distraction to the purpose of our military which is to kill people and destroy things. This was a wonderful thing they did but we must find out what is going on on the bridge with commanders. If GPS had been the cause we would not be in administrative review of the officers of the “Fitgerald” in my opinion.

There is no excuse for not seeing a fricking oil tanker. Even if they did get hacked.

Some kind of sabotage to the steering mechanism would make seeing it irrelevant. But it would take a level of skill that only a few sailors could have, those being specialists in engineering. And the timing would have to be perfect.
