These statues are of DEMOCRATS... This needs to be repeated in all media outlets.
Roger Taney...a Jacksonian Democrat, was made Chief Justice by Jackson(the founder of the Democrat Party). Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, holding that office from 1836 until his death in 1864. He delivered the majority opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857), that ruled, among other things, that African-Americans, having been considered inferior at the time the United States Constitution was drafted, were not part of the original community of citizens and, whether free or slave, could not be considered citizens of the United States, which created an uproar among abolitionists and the free states of the northern U.S. Note: The Dred Scott decision was during the term of Democrat President James Buchanan.
Jefferson Davis..... politician who served as the President of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. He was a member of the Democratic Party who represented Mississippi in the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives prior to becoming president of the Confederacy. He was the 23rd United States Secretary of War, serving under U.S. President Franklin Pierce from 1853 to 1857.
Robert E Lee... Lee served as a senior military adviser to President Jefferson Davis. After the war, Lee supported Democrat President Andrew Johnson’s program of Reconstruction while opposing the Radical Republican proposals to give freed slaves the vote and take the vote away from ex-Confederates.
The Navy and Coast Guard both have named ships after Taney.
The mob attacks Taney because he wrote the opinion for the majority in Dred Scott. He did so because he believed the law compelled the result. There were two dissents, but only one dissenter believed that Scott's claim should have been upheld. The other said that Scott's claim should have been dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. In those far-off times, courts did not think their job was to legislate.
Tearing down Taney's statue crosses the line between getting rid of Confederate monuments and getting rid of monuments to people you just don't like. How can those slaveholders Washington and Jefferson not be next?
“How can those slaveholders Washington and Jefferson not be next?”
They are. Logic compels it. Which is why those who are not of the Left should beware of accepting the premise of their arguments. Limbaugh falls into that trap all too often.
Tearing down Washington and Jefferson and Jackson et alia has been discussed on the Left for a long time. They have no affection for America’s past.
Mohammed was a slave owner.
Captain John Smith had once been captured by Muslims and made a galley slave.
Baltimore doesn’t deserve statues of real American heroes. And besides, the presence of those statues there bsmirches them and the memory of who they represent.
“Of course, the voters of Baltimore could elect a new city council that will have the power to return the statues to their rightful locations.”
Surely you jest.
Didn’t know that.
Looks like he escaped.
FYI...wyowolf has been a liberal POS on FR ever since it joined the site.
