Yup. Thankfully I haven’t been in that situation, but if I’m driving and I get surrounded and people start banging on my car, I will slam through that crowd. I’ll deal with consequences later — my priority is to get out of the situation.
I’m currently thinking the guy in Charlottesville did exactly that. With what i know know (definitely incomplete) if I were on the jury, I’d let him go.

I'd have to hear all the facts before I let him off completely, but I will say that he has one huge thing in his favor in this situation: Everyone he hit was in the street. This clearly was not a case where someone in a car went on a reckless, destructive spree driving through a crowd in a pedestrian plaza or a park somewhere.
