Whose truth? Here are the rules of "progressive" (liberal) treuth:
1. Truth is whatever serves the party.
2. If you repeat something often enough, it becomes true.
3. If the facts contradict the narrative, then the facts lie.
“Student” is singular. “They” and “their” are plural.
The contagion is spreading like wildfire. Even “conservative” and “traddy Catholic” bloggers are doing it.

At Catholic University 25 years sgo, we were required to use “inclusive language.” I quickly trained myself never to begin a sentence with pronouns like “someone,” “anyone,” etc., so the issue of him/her/it/they/them would not arise. I think it would have been hard for anyone to tell whether I was using “inclusive language” or not.
I have always called “inclusive language” Lesbonics.
Facts that contradict the narrative are Hate Facts.
