Yes - there’s no state income tax in WA (and hopefully, there will never be).

King County (Seattle) & Tacoma and Olympia are the cesspool sup here....

the rest of the state is pretty conservative (e.g. eastern WA, Clark County in SW WA) - hence we fight the dirty libs.

Probably more than a few little girls in Seattle look up to her as a role model. *SMH*

When I tell my friends what my property taxes run me in central KY, they ask me how they can be that cheap. I tell them they are asking the wrong question.

What they should be asking themselves is, “Why am I renting my property from the state and why is it so expensive?”

As an outsider now, it just looks beyond stupid to me that they let their state do that to them. It’s one of the reasons I moved.

“Does Seattle have a city income tax as well?”

? That’s what the article is talking about - a new city income tax. There is no state income tax in WA.

Hell, the mafia takes less.

Shortly after the breakup of the USSR I saw a news special discussing organized crime in Russia. They interviewed a Russian restaurant owner and he said something along these lines:

We pay the government very high taxes for police to protect us, but they do nothing. We pay the mob protection money, and we actually get something for our money.

Seattle is going down the tubes, following the footsteps of San Francisco. The socialist appetite for other people’s money will never be quenched. The smart ones with money (Mitt Romney) have already offshored their wealth.

Don’t quote me your state constitutions. When one wants to say something is against the state constitution say state constitution

“Envy, my favorite sin next to vanity”, said the Devil.
The goal here is to make everyone equally miserable.everyone but the Socialists. Socialism does not apply to them, of course.

I need to find a nice quiet place in the country instead - preferably someplace conservative and with low property taxes and low income taxes...is there any place left?

Highlands County, Florida. Large retired military population, property taxes relatively low—except for maybe lakefront property. Summers are unbearably hot and humid.

Even being dead-center in the Florida peninsula, still subject to the occasional hurricane.

No the topic was a city income tax. This board covers many states each state has its own constitution. What may be outlawed in one is not in the other

In a rather larger sense when one claims something is unconstitutional it usually is about the US constitution.

And since you are unlikely to be a native Coradoan it does not suit you to call someone who is an idiot. My contacts run deep

What about gross income?

You laugh, but that is how Texas enacted a corporate income tax without calling it that. It is a gross receipts franchise tax. Basically, it is a tax on corporate gross receipts less either salaries or cost of goods sold.

BS article the fails to mention that the tax is patently illegal under both the state’s constitution and state law.

those affected should refuse to pay, fund a class action lawsuit against the city and subsequently seek damages after they win.

I lived for 14 months in Tacoma (1980s). For the recreational crowd, this region of the US is probably one of the more enjoyable areas. Beaches, national parks, lakes, camping, and hiking....all five-star. In two hours, you can be across the border into Oregon and ride along the coast. Mount Hood draws thousands every weekend.

But you said...the ‘people’ were an issue. My impression was that around 10-percent should have been institutionalized (they weren’t sane, or they were hyped up on some drug constantly). I don’t know if this was just long-term marijuana usage or just mental issues.

I would readily move back there in a heartbeat, but there’s no way that I’d live around Seattle, Portland, Olympia...they are all lost causes.

Can a city in state with no income tax have an income tax?

I suppose it depends on the state constitution.

Consider rent control. Here in Taxachusetts, there was no state-wide rent control. But, starting in 1970, certain municipalities, including the Peoples Republic of Cambridge, enacted rent control ordinances. These lasted until 1994, when a state-wide ballot question abolished them (yeah, how amazing for Massachusetts!). Massachusetts is full of moonbats, but proposals over the years to make the state income tax progressive have failed.

If I were living in Washington, I'd love to slap down Seattle via similar means!
