My thought was always that polygamy would be the next thing after gay marriage. After that comes radically lowered age of consent, IMO.

The whole age of consent thing is a relatively new wrinkle in the USA. Up until the 1950’s most states either had no age or else they permitted girls to get married as young as thirteen. Some states still allow 13 to 16 year old girls to marry and while some of them have these laws on the books the others allow it via judicial law where courts have said it’s okay.
The post World War Two push to raise the age of consent to 18 is consistently linked to liberals like Margaret Sanger who wanted girls to avoid marriage, go to college, and avoid having children until later in life. Thereby having fewer children.
Sanger had her way.
