Very sad.You don’t go to a State Fair thinking you’re going to die.

5 bucks say the state inspected this ride before it was allowed to operate.

I’m not putting my life in the hands of those carnies who put the rides together.

OMG, what a horrible tragedy! Who would think they'd be going for a day of fun and then not come home?

I remember when my dad used to take me to the Ohio State Fair when I was a kid. I loved the livestock shows and pony races. I loved seeing the champion vegetables and fruits, the winning quilts, and all the other competing items. They offered all kinds of weird foods, like fried Twinkies. and other staples like funnel cakes, Belgian waffles, and locally brewed beer. There was rousing music of many kinds playing over the whole area. People strolled with their families, having the best time ever. Guys would try to win stuffed animals for their girls in the shooting stalls. I am sure they were rigged, but some did triumph and then have to schlep around a giant panda bear for the rest of the Fair.

My senior year in high school, I was invited to exhibit my winning science fair project, having to do with the behavior of green anoles, at the Ohio State Fair. In those days, there were guys selling green anoles tethered to a velvet board by tiny collars and leashes. One morning, I went to my terrarium of anoles and found that I had acquired several extra anoles---wearing tiny collars and leashes. I took them home and cared for them too until they eventually lived out their little lifespans and joined the great mealworm in the sky.

How terrible that an innocent person lost their life on that defective ride, and how awful that an eagerly awaited event like the Ohio State Fair would lose some of its joy, especially for kids, thereafter.

The workers the fair are more frightening than the rides. The nuts and bolts that hold a ride together are weak and used. I rode the Zipper once at a county fair and learned to never again ride a county fair.

Space Mountain is a roller coaster at Disneyland that is smooth, fun, safe and professional.

My kids complain when I won’t let them ride those rides, but this kind of thing is why.
