If Sessions were fired tomorrow, the Deputy AG who appointed the special counsel becomes the AG. It would take months for a new AG to be approved by the Senate.

No he doesn't. He didn't have a replacement for Comey when Comey was fired. Took weeks to name one, and weeks after that before sending the nomination to the Senate. The DoJ has what, 35,000 workers. Make it part of downsizing the division.
