Obama Warns Against ‘Aggressive’ Nationalism, ‘Increased Resentment’
Talking Points Memo ^ | July 1, 2017 | Esme Cribb

Posted on 07/02/2017 8:15:40 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Former President Barack Obama on Saturday warned against “aggressive” nationalism and the loss of tolerance and respect for others, pushing back against President Donald Trump’s policies without mentioning his successor by name.

“The world is at a crossroads,” Obama said at a speech opening the Fourth Congress of Indonesian Diaspora in Jakarta.

He said the world must fight “discrimination against people based on race or ethnicity or religion.”

Without that, Obama said, “We start seeing a rise in sectarian politics.”

“We start seeing a rise in an aggressive kind of nationalism,” he said. “We start seeing both in developed and developing countries an increased resentment about minority groups and the bad treatment of people who don’t look like us or practice the same faith as us.”

Obama said progress depends on those willing to “stand up for tolerance and moderation and respect for others.”

“If we begin to doubt ourselves and all that we have accomplished, then much of the progress that we have made will not continue,” he said. “What we will see is more and more people arguing against democracy, we will see more and more people who are looking to restrict freedom of the press, and we’ll see more intolerance, more tribal divisions, more ethnic divisions and religious divisions and more violence.”

“Let’s face it, if people do not show respect and tolerance, eventually you have war and conflict,” Obama said. “Sooner or later societies break down.”

Look at all of Obama’s actions and decisions. He may not be a practicing Muslim but every decision he has made and every comment he has uttered has been toward the support of Islam here in the USA.

Obama not only supports the spread of Islam but has been the great enabler of that creeping cancerous invasion of our nation.

Islam is not compatible with our culture or our constitution and never will be. It is the goal of Islam to change our constitution and culture to meet their beliefs and cultural norms.

In other words they do not intend to change to fit our culture they fully intend to change our laws and culture to fit into their culture. Wake up America and stand your ground if you value your religion, your culture, and your constitution.

Obama Warns Americans About Too Much Patriotism — On July 4th Weekend!

Thank Heaven this asshole is almost gone...not completely, yet, but rightfully almost.

Obama gave us Trump. The animus against Obama was was strong, if not stronger, than it is against Trump. Obama made it clear that he did not like white people, Christians, conservatives, gun owners, businessmen, capitalism, the military, patriotism or America. The opposition was, however, more restrained, partly because of the risks involved in criticizing him and partly because those who opposed him aren’t as inclined to become openly hysterical, but the backlash is both deep and wide. Trump tapped into the revulsion and anger Obama instilled in mainstream Americans.

He still hasn’t “warned” against “resistance” from the commies and Nazis and the lies spread by their toads in the liberal “media”? This is another big Obama “nothing burger”. To hell with Obama. He’s just an irrelevant dumbass perpetual vacationer.

While nationalism drives the foreign policies of China, Russia, and as always France, it isn't the biggest factor for world relations. China and Russia are constantly working angles against us, India, Japan, Europe or Australia, but that is normally a slow process.

The dissolution of politically created nations, such as Yugoslavia and Iraq, into ethnic and sectarian offshoots will continue to dominate world politics for a while. Add in the massive uncontrolled migration of middle easterners into Europe and things promise to be interesting. There are a lot more Sudans, and Rwandas to go.

While people like Obama see ethnic, racial, and sectarian divides as part of nationalism, I believe nationalism can exist either with or without those things, and without the two being related.

Gee, I wonder why I am not inspired by that speech. Could it be that I heard JFK’s speech of which this is a part?

“The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

“Nationalism” is the bogeyman of the entire international Left. It is the bogeyman, as if “nationalism” and not its abuse by a few bad actors - seeking their own power - has always been the problem. Using “nationalism” as the bogeyman-excuse, the Left form the Soviet Union to squash any natural self-determination of the former colonies of imperial Russia. Using the bogeyman-excuse of “nationalism” the Soviets made colonies of the eastern European nations, annexing them as de facto entities of the Soviet Union.

THAT project of the international Left failed, miserably, but the bogeyman-excuse of “nationalism” was drug out again by the European Left as the rationale for the EU’s excessive grab of sovereignty of western European nations - devolving what had been sovereign powers to dictats from Brussels.

Many of the crony-capitalist “free trade” agreements are also entities spawned not to promote “free trade” but to make a trading cartel of rules aimed at benefiting most the incumbent major corporations of the nations to whom the rules apply. Crony-capitalists have the same objectives as political big-government philosophies - bigger (government over a broader area means deeper, broader & more centralized rules, which benefits them over the little guy. The crony-capitalists continually sell out the Liberty of everyone, bit by bit, to the Marxists’ state-capitalist economic mode.

Though I am by no means a wise man nor one with expert knowledge, my education has at least resulted in the ability, often, to recognize one.

An excellent post, sir.

Obama speaks in stale, tedious platitudes. The most memorable line he ever uttered is, ‘If you like your dr, you can keep your dr.’ He wasn’t even much of a community organizer. His greatest skill was intercepting a joint when it wasn’t his turn to take a toke (as a high schooler). He’s coasted on his race since then.

Look jOkeass, you are free to go to any country you want (the sooner the better). Why do you want to change this country into one of them? When you are there, get them to adopt a 2nd Amendment.
