It used to be that young people in America started out with tough jobs so they would aspire to have better jobs.
I worked as a janitor at a hospital while I was going to college.
I learned a lot from that job.
One of the big things I learned was that I didn’t like cleaning toilets.
That motivated me to work harder in college and I never had to clean toilets again.
That’s how it’s supposed to work.
And I don’t look down on janitors.

Kids today have absolutely no concept of hard work and the rewards that follow.
I, too, cleaned toilets - at an art gallery while going to college. There were even things I liked about that job — especially the paymaster giving us our weekly pay in cash Friday afternoons. There is absolutely no shame in an honest job.
Digging trenches was my Dirty Job.
I grew up walking behind a mule, picking cotton, cutting firewood with an axe and a hand saw and all those other hobbies that farm children used to enjoy and now some idiot is talking about whether I have thought about who is going to drive my limousine? They can all go straight to blazes.
