The NRA Shuns a Second Amendment Martyr
Reason ^ | June 21, 2017

Philando Castile did what you are supposed to do if you have a concealed-carry permit and get pulled over by police: He let the officer know he had a gun. Had Castile been less forthcoming, he would still be alive.

Last Friday a Minnesota jury acquitted the cop who killed Castile of second-degree manslaughter, demonstrating once again how hard it is to hold police accountable when they use unnecessary force. The verdict also sends a chilling message to gun owners, since Castile is dead because he exercised his constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Jeronimo Yanez, an officer employed by the St. Anthony, Minnesota, police department, stopped Castile around 9 p.m. on July 6 in Falcon Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The official reason was a nonfunctioning brake light.

The actual reason, according to Yanez, was that Castile resembled a suspect in a convenience store robbery that had happened four days before in the same neighborhood. The full extent of the resemblance was that Castile, like the suspect, was black, wore glasses and dreadlocks, and had a "wide-set nose."

"Had Castile been less forthcoming, he would still be alive."
Had he followed the instructions that was being screamed at him by the LEO, he would still be alive.

Wasn’t this guy driving under the influence?

Can’t see that the NRA would want to get behind the cause of a dead pothead.

Castile’s biggest problem was “carrying while stoned”.

Had he stopped moving when the officer told him to stop reaching he’d be alive today.

Does that mean the officer was without fault? No, but you can’t rely on the officer not freaking out if you continue to move after the officer shouts “don’t!...”

Typical distorted nonsense from a left wing source.

What they do not tell you is that it is how he said it.

He did not put is hands in plain site, on the wheel or the dash and say “Officer, I have a conceal carry permit and I am carrying a weapon at this time”

He instead was making erratic movements and said “I have a gun”

I don’t think the NRA (whom I am a supporter of) should inject themselves into controversies involving (possible) police misconduct. It’s not part of their mission as far as I can see and it would appear to be potentially counter-productive to their mission. We don’t expect a statement from Triple A every time a drunk driver kills someone.

This is the second time today I heave seen this sentiment.

What does the NRA have to do with this situation?

The right to bear arms isn’t as important to some as the compulsion to stand behind the government whenever it murders someone.

At the time of the incident, I remember thinking that it was almost as if his girlfriend wanted it to happen... She did some very odd things on social media in the immediate aftermath, as I recall.

“What does the NRA have to do with this situation?”

Big Media’s mission is to convince the mindless masses to associate ALL gun violence with the NRA.

Triple A (AAA) offers roadside assistance why would they be involved in commenting on drunk drivers?

That was my whole point. The NRA lobbies to preserve second amendment rights, why would they be involved on commenting on police misconduct?

He actually said in a calm voice, “Officer I do have a firearm with me.” The officer told him not to reach for it and he responded calmly several times, “I am not reaching for it.” The officer NEVER told him to place his hands on the wheel. He did tell him to produce his documents. So the victim was faced with two contradictory directives, do not reach for the gun and reach for your documents. For many LEOs the greatest desire that directs their conduct is to make it home to their families. If so, they are in the wrong line of work. And I have said this to the many LEOs I know which include and have included a half dozen family members with the NYPD.

There is a term that should be applied to black CCW carriers in some of these big city suburbs. Suicidal.

= = =

They appropriated two of their A’s from AA.

But they won’t say which ones. Better get a Special Counsel.

"Had he followed the instructions that was being screamed at him by the LEO, he would still be alive."

That's not the relevant question. The right question is whether the cop was justified. Even so, it's not true. What the LEO was screaming was, "Don't pull it out!". To which Castile was responding, "I'm not". And he wasn't.

The cop should have said, "Freeze, don't move!". I know, it's a little thing. But this man's life may have turned on that little thing in those few seconds.
