Exxon Mobil signs on to Republican-led carbon tax proposal

WASHINGTON - Exxon Mobil Corp. and other large oil companies are backing a carbon tax proposal put forward earlier this year by a group of former Republican leaders including James A. Baker III, the former secretary of state and a Houston attorney.

The Climate Leadership Coalition, a group that includes Baker, former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, and former Secretary of State George Shultz, announced a list of "founding members" Tuesday that includes Exxon Mobil, BP, Shell, Total, General Motors and Johnson & Johnson.

"We support @TheCLCouncil as a founding member and are working to support its policy development process," Exxon Mobil tweeted Tuesday from its corporate account.

The coalition is urging President Donald Trump to adopt a tax on carbon emissions, revenue from which would be distributed among taxpayers to offset increases in energy prices.

These old men are fools and fell for the Democrats “fake carbon tax” pollution ploy.

I’ve never trusted James Baker since the Reagan years. Nobody I knew trusted him but he managed to beat out the Ed Meese faction for the ear of Pres. Reagan, and helped wreck some of Ronnie’s programs (From innsider information on Baker’s subterfuge).

Now he’s back trying to destroy our energy industry, backed by that fool Paulson and George Schulz (who should have retired from the public 30 years ago before he did more damage to America).

No. It’s a barrier to entry ploy created by the companies to protect their elite status. The companies want this to ward off competition.

Oil companies have played in the CO2 cesspool for quite some time because it thwarts competition. So no, sceptic scientists have not been funded by nor have they sold their souls to big oil. Sceptics are merely scientists who hold to the scientific method.

I didn't know corporations were susceptible to Stockholm syndrome.

20 Jun: Forbes: Ellen R. Wald: The Climate Leadership Council’s Devious Plan To Distract American Carbon Consumers
Founding businesses include oil companies ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Total and BP. Non-energy companies include General Motors, Pepsi and Santander. Founding individuals include Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York; Steven Chu, a former Energy Secretary in the Obama Administration; Stephen Hawking, the famous physicist, and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. The website lists the “Distinguished Co-Authors of Carbon Dividends Plan,” the CLC’s founding document, as James A. Baker III and George P. Schultz, both former U.S. Secretaries of State and 87 and 96 years old, respectively...

The CLC’s second step proposes that the money collected from this tax be disbursed to “the “American people” ...In other words, “the American people” would be paid back by the government for suffering through higher bills. It is not dissimilar to a convoluted money laundering scheme with a little skimmed off for government agencies. This scheme amounts to a slight of hand to make Americans think they are getting something for free...
