Special counsel is investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice, officials say

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s own conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Possible, but I figure not likely. I figure Senator Warner is a likely leaker, and so are member of Camp Mueller. These leaks are not illegal, they contain no classified information. These players are totally unethical.

Hmmmm, how is Trump going to take that “intended” nominee going to be taken back?

I think I figured it out. Nobody is necessarily listening in, and you may be correct that the leak came from the IC.

interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.
I think what we see here is an inference by the reporter. Senior IC official is interviewed. Reporter speculates that "Did Trump ever ask you to [blah blah blah]" same questions asked at Congressional hearings sort of thing were posed to the witness. This is where an IC witness could leak contents of questions posed. The reporter extends that into the opening of an investigation into obstruction by Trump.

I don't understand your question. He isn't necessarily going to take it back, but he could. He can take it back even after it gets to the Senate. GWB withdrew the nomination of Harriet Miers to SCOTUS, after sending it to the Senate.

Sounds to me like with all these meetings and special councils going on there needs to be an investigation OF THEM to discover why is it they get to tie up tax payers money running after none issues......and further keeping our Representatives from doing countries work.

Stop the insanity for crying out loud!!! And who is it calling for all these, or manipulating situations for them???? I can name them in one note!

Trump thinks there are Democrats that like him and want him to succeed. This is why he still finds himself in these problems. Appoint loyalist. Who cares what that looks like

This crap isn’t “freedom of speech” - it’s intentionally inciting the lunatic left to violence with an endless stream of bullshit “reports”. It’s damaging our country and every one of the scum behind this should be identified and arrested.

Me thinks this is just another media attempt to goad Trump into doing something rash...like firing Mueller. Of course if Mueller had an ounce of decency he would have never accepted the assignment, or certainly announce his resignation after the focus became James Comey.

Trump just needs to bide his time here right now, and keep doing work to disassemble Obama’s mess while getting a PR team in place to hit back hard against the false narrative that this investigation represents.

Thanks. I am not sure of the definition of "opening an investigation." In a sense, asking questions about something is a kind of "investigation," but the WaPo won't let me read the article without paying. I don't even know what they are claiming.

I think it's just more of the same sliming with innuendo that's been going on for a year and a half. "Fake news." A Politico article concludes:

"If Mueller closes his investigation without bringing charges against Trump, does that mean that evidence might exist of a presidential crime left unprosecuted?" [John Carlin, a former senior Obama-era Justice Department official] wrote. "And what would happen next? As of now, it is anybody's guess."

PRESIDENT TRUMP APPOINTED AS FBI DIR: Wray, a Yale Law School graduate, served on the President’s Corporate Fraud Task Force and oversaw the Enron Task Force and other major fraud investigations, according to the Washington law firm King & Spaulding, where he is a litigation partner.

http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=56867 Who Mueller appointed, AND ARE HILLARY/DEMOCRAT DONORS

quote from link: And Andrew Weissman, who oversees fraud cases at the Justice Department, donated six times to PACs for Obama’s presidential campaign as well as the DNC in 2006.

NOTE: Weissman was also involved in Enron
case:

http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=56867 Who Mueller appointed to committee to investigate Trump for Obstruction, where there is none.

In consideration of Mueller’s actions and appointees to his investigative committee...WHY isn’t he removed by Congress and the whole thing crushed? RINOS trying to get rid of Trump too? THIS IS A SET UP THAT NEEDS TO BE AXED~

ONLY Rosenstein can fire Meuller.

Trump can fire both of them.

The whole article is based on a leak reported in exactly these words:

Five people briefed on the requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers's recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller's investigators as early as this week.
Five leakers. Could all be from Camp Mueller. The article also says this:

It is unclear whether McCabe, Comey's successor, has informed Trump of the change in the scope of the probe.

Under the regulations, McCabe is totally out of the picture. Mueller "reports to" Rosenstein, not McCabe. Mueller is independent, but requires consultation with Rosenstein to expand the scope of his investigation.

Is Rosenstein as neutral as he has pretended for all these years? Why would he appoint Mueller in first place, if he was?
