rand said that if Scalise hadn’t been there, they wouldn’t have had any security. But because Scalise was there capitol police were there, but they didn’t know at first where the shots were coming from (2nd base area? 3rd base line?)
Looking at the scene, I’m wondering if the shooter was taking cover behind those trees. And why a situation like that wasn’t planned for.
They owe their lives to scalise being there.

Steve Scalise dragged himself into the ball field to get away, while shots going overhead from both sides.
Flake ran to Scalise to render aid.
Rand Paul was there. His account:
Rifle used. First shot nobody reacted, then 5-10 in a row.
He was at farthest spot. Stayed behind an oak tree. 50-60 shots from shooter. Capitol police returned fire with handguns. “Nobody would have survived without Capitol police...Would have been massacre without them.”
Both police, Scalise, two or three staffers were wounded. Capitol police officer (woman?) airlifted to hospital.
