President Donald Trump plans to smash the Islamic States final bastion in Syria, and he wants the Kurds help in doing so despite push back from Turkish allies.
Trump plans to inform Turkeys President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of his controversial plan to retake Raqqa, ISISs de facto capital, when the Turkish leader visits Washington later this month, according to Foreign Policy magazine.
The administrations move would help Trump accomplish his goal of finally defeating ISIS, but could also further alienate Turkey, a key NATO ally in the region. The main concern surrounds the use of Syrian Kurdish forces, specifically the YPG, in the offensive. YPG forces have ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist group by both the U.S. and Turkey.

Not surprised.
If Turkey takes Raqqa, they won’t leave.
It’s good news that President Trump seems to be cutting them out.
Erdogan is a pal of Obama’s, but he is NOT our ally, and never has been.
We helped ISIS take it., hold it, build it and supply it, dammit
Its ours .
GOOD!!!!
Ouch, so true.
Good move. The Kurds are the only reliable group there.
Glad to see Trump stand up to Erdogen. Erdogen is no friend to U.S. or Europe.
Can the Kurds keep it by themselves?
..... What ever happened to not telegraphing to the enemy your moves?
That went out the window in this particular case when Turkey said they might attack US Forces if they took kurds with them. Trump is right to tell them in no uncertain terms exactly how the cow is gonna eat the cabbage.
Its a shot across Turkeys bow that it would be damned serious trouble for them to attack US forces.
Cutting them off...cold turkey.
“What ever happened to not telegraphing to the enemy your moves?”
Puleeze!
President Trump didn’t announce WHEN we were taking Raqqa.
Anything to pick & poke at President Trump lately.
#MAGA
Please make it be so!
Seems Erdogan’s interests will become increasingly aligned with Russia’s - at least up to a point.
And to that, I say - I don’t care. I don’t view Russia as an enemy.
Rather, I see the West’s elites and their alignment with Sunni Islam as the enemy.
South Front (an SAA-friendly media organisation) have this round-up of recent operations which we armchair generals may find useful.
The Raqqa offensive gets a mention, also the latest rename of Al Queda in Syria (to HTS) and the likely offensive to relieve Deir Ezzor from Palmyra.
Deir Ezzor is a critical war aim. It stands athwart any goal of splitting Syria to put a Qatar pipeline through to Europe.
This is why ISIS (and the former White House) were so keen to take it, even to the point of the USAF strafing SAA positions and acting as ISIS’s airforce.
There’s a difference between revealing your goal and your strategy to achieve the goal. When the president starts announcing troop movements, bombing missions, withdrawal timetables, etc, let us know.
It’s about time someone gave a big middle finger to that Islamist bastard. He hope he brings up the Armenian genocide too just too top it all off.
“Get you’re gooney goo goo ass and get the *&^% out of my house.”
