Reagan’s congeniality helped him with the people and hurt him in government. Democrats and the media fought a perpetual war against him, finally crippling his presidency after they retook the senate in 1986. They stopped Bork and shut down the country for Iran-Contra hearings.
Trump fights them. Reagan shook their hand and turned the other cheek.
Reagan’s focus was on the Soviet Union anyways. And he won that, though in winning that he had to ignore and/or bribe the Democrats, but by then they had been emboldened.
In Trump’s case, the Demo-GOP-media machine is the enemy, and so a different tactic is called for.
