When asked whether President Donald Trump would still cut off law enforcement funds to the city of Chicago because it’s a sanctuary city even though it could hamper police from fighting violent crime, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said sanctuary cities can’t have it both ways — refusing to cooperate with federal immigration officials and still expecting to get law enforcement grants to handle a situation they created.

“You can’t be a sanctuary city and at the same time seem to pretend or express concern about law enforcement or ask for more money when probably a number of the funds that you're using in the first place are going to law enforcement to handle the situation that you’ve created for yourself,” Spicer said. […]

Spicer noted that the president’s belief on sanctuary cities is shared by “upwards of 80 percent of the American people” that U.S. taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund cities, counties and, in some cases, states that allow people illegally in this country to potentially do us harm. …

“We would like to continue to break the law ... and oh, by the way, can we get federal funds to help us crack down on people who break the law?”

According to one of their Congressmen, Chicongo is the third largest Mexican city. Ask them for money.

It's nice to finally have an administration that will come out and say this.

Arrest the leaders of Chicago for giving aid and comfort to the enemy; then indict, try, convict, and sentence them to be publicly hanged and leave their carcasses to rot off the noose.

SANCTUARY CITIES ARE A VIOLATION OF EXISTING FEDERAL LAW

The 1996 immigration law ("Illegal Immigration Reform Act of 1996") specifically requires local officials and governments to fully cooperate with the federal government on issues regarding illegal aliens.

A state or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

Title VIII, U.S. Code section 1373.

Failure or refusal of local governments and officials to cooperate fully is a violation of the law.

AND - If a local official violates the law and that violation results in a death the official can be prosecuted and receive up to a LIFE SENTENCE in prison.

As in the case of Kate Steinle who was murdered in cold blood by an illagal alien being harbored by the city government in San Francisco.

It is time for the US Attorney General to bring charges against local officials who are violating this law.

BONUS FACT! This Act was signed into law by Bill Clinton.

It is time for SPICER to read this law in a press conference and explain how they can “bring charges against local officials who are violating this law”.

What if Chicago received no Federal money, cut programs, and thrived?

Would it be a rebuke of Trump’s deportation of criminal illegals?

Or would it be a teaching moment that those Federally financed programs were losers?

That’s a mighty big IF.

Chances are somewhere between slim and none since even with fed funds Chicongo is dying a slow but sure financial death anyway.

The next step for the left is, you guessed it, federal court!!!

They’ll find some activist judge who will create a law out of thin air that says the federal government MUST continue to provide the same level of financial assistance to sanctuary cities as it did before Trump took office.

Count on it.

Arrest the criminals, that would be the politicians, who are in cohoots with the gang leaders and the police won’t need more money to fight crime...

Anybody who thinks the Chicago pols aren’t protecting the gangs isn’t paying attention....

If what we’re seeing in Obama/Emmanuel Ville is an example of police fighting violent crime, then denying funds to the city, ostensibly for “public safety,” can’t possibly make things any worse.

Targeting public safety, the police, and schools, is always the democrat answer to proposed tax cuts or fund cutoffs. The idea is to make it so painful, and so endanger the citizens that any cut would fail due to public outcry. It’s a very old, time-tested tactic.

Saying ain’t doing. Once the funding stops, and Chicago decides to enforce immigration laws, then we will won a battle. Until then, it’s just talk... talk... talk.

Maybe it is the dependence on Federal funds that is killing Chicago. If they were forced to be self-sufficient they might learn a few things.
