RUMORS: If RyanCare fails, Trey Gowdy may replace Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House

With the likely failure of RyanCare on the horizon, the landscape of the Republican party may drastically restructure itself.

Ryans heathcare bill was supposed to be a full repeal and replacement of ObamaCare, but many conservatives have abandoned Ryan’s bill, citing it keeps many of President Obama’s policies intact.

As a result, President Trump modestly went to Capitol Hill and urged congress and threatened their chances of reelection if they fail to launch.

Paul Ryan barely received an endorsement from Donald Trump given Ryan’s stigma of being a Republican In Name Only.

Enter Trey Gowdy, the man who publicly lambasted Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, and James Comey.

Then I think this might be a really good idea because the person would not have to worry about being re-elected, and could just focus on the job.

It would have to be someone who is 100% trusted, a DJT supporter, and most importantly, someone who knew what the Constitution really says and wanted to honor it.

Hmmmmm....who would qualify for that, and even want it?

How about Stephen Miller?

Several alternatives to Ryan will surface. Among prominent non-Representatives will be Newt, Giuliani, etc., and perhaps mischievously some member of Trump’s administration (Bannon?). Among current Representatives surely are Gowdy and Jordan, but I’d like to add California’s Tom McClintock as a conservative with both wisdom and political savvy.

Why didn't he, as he promised?

Last year, after President Obama vetoed an Obamacare repeal bill that had strong Republican support, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) promised similar repeal if Republicans won the White House.

"We have shown now that there is a clear path to repealing Obamacare without 60 votes in the Senate," he declared. "So, next year, if we're sending this bill to a Republican president, it will get signed into law." -SFC

What an interesting idea. But I think they are all such prima donas that they’d just refuse to work with him.

Interesting point of view. I very much hope you are right.

You have it backwards. The GOP would have owned Obamacare if they had passed the rearranging bill Ryan put forth.
Obamacare still belongs to those who passed it.
Just as Ryancare would have belonged to the GOP if it had passed, it would still mainly be Obamacare, but the name would have changed.

Didn’t McClintock criticize the ‘rebellion,’ against Boehner? I realize it saddled us with Ryan, but at the time, we had more than reasonable cause to reject Boehner.

I was wondering if Trump was setting up Ryan to make him Ryan look bad and get him out of the Speakership.

Maybe this is a part of a larger strategy. I don’t really know. But what if we needed to play this failure out as a prelude to the midterm elections? Would the prospect of a truly Constitutional REPEAL only..fire up the electorate enough to really oust the Uniparty Republican posers?

Either way, this should prove that Constitutionalists need to identify the most vulnerable/worthy-of-being-replaced Congressmen are and start now. We’re only a year away.

Instead the President saw the writing on the wall, cut his losses, and what is the immediate fallout? They’re already calling for a change in leadership in the House at the top.

You can day dream all you want about Ryan but the immediate fall out here is that POTUS knows he can’t count on conservatives to support him. Good luck on Ryancare 2.0, spending, etc. POTUS will be looking for votes elsewhere in the future, guaranteed.

The GOP owns it either way. People blame the party in power for what happens during their terms, regardless of details.

Perhaps—I don’t recall. My recommendation is purely from various observations here in California over the years, which have earned my respect generally, regardless of specific stances such as you cited.

I should add that, compared to most California politicians, McClintock is an arch-conservative. Even Darrell Issa seems lately to be wobbly.

Thanks for the additional information. You certainly know McClintock better than I do.

If Trump doesn’t recognize the conservatives standing on principle and begins to think they are his enemy he will find out about loyalty. Ryan and McWeasal will sell him out in the bat of an eye they have no principles except $$$.
