Statues of Confederate leaders Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis are targeted for removal in New Orleans, after a federal appeals court approved the city's plan to change how it treats symbols of its history. Opponents of the move vow to keep fighting it in court.
When Mayor Mitch Landrieu called for the city to remove the statue of Lee back in 2015, he said, "There may have been a time when that monument reflected who we were as a city, but times change. And so do we," as member station WWNO reported. After an intense public debate, the city council voted to take the statues down and place them in a new area.
The plan sparked legal challenges; this week, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a district court that had ruled the city could go ahead with the removal because the plaintiffs weren't likely to prevail. The court said plaintiffs in the case hadn't proven their argument that removing the statues would bring irreparable harm.

Well of course they did.
Be nice to have a museum of history in every state filled with the history liberals want to erase.
Sort of like “Reconstruction”.
Indeed
The truth of it is, and the shame of it is, you were brow-beat and pressured and threatened into the action by rabble rousers. It had nothing to do with "who you are" as a city.
Sherman headed up the Louisiana military academy and seminary (or some similar title), which was originally established in Alexandria, LA, but later developed into what became LSU in Baton Rouge. There are no statues of WTS there that I’m aware of, but after the war, Sherman arranged to have some of the Charleston Harbor cannon that shelled Ft. Sumter sent to the school, and up until at least a few years ago, they were mounted outside the ROTC building at LSU.
So much for no guns on campus :)
Get rid of that nasty St. Joan over on Decatur while you’re at it, morons!
They can replace Lee or Jackson with Beast Butler.
Westerns were ubiquitous on tv in the Fifties through the early sixties. One of the most common themes revolved around the overhanging cultural tension left from the Civil War. Reconciliation, with an attitude of “the war is over, we’re all Americans, let’s learn to live together and get on with building the country”, was the universal resolution - until we come to the Sixties’ Gramscian culture war that required conflict in all things. The poison of the leftist takeover of Hollywood and their mission to destroy all things casting positive light on America swept away any wholesome and uplifting depictions of Americana. NO has drunk deeply from this cup of poison.
Jean Laffite was a slave smuggler (into the ports, not working for the underground railroad to help them get to freedom) and yet these NOLA hypocrites aren’t shouting about the park named after him.

Democrats must love the Taliban. You can’t fix stupid and history has already happened.
They wouldn’t know Jean Laffite if they fell over him. Although I think there’s a bar with his name on it over on Bourbon.
Johnny Reb!
Is there still a Penny Lane in England?
I assume so.
The American version of ISIS... If I don’t agree with you and your history I will just eliminate both... Down the “memory hole”. Somewhere George Orwell is laughing...
Not likely: he be just another old White dude.
I’ll decline. Sorry if the truth of the RAT Rebellion offends your delicate sensibilities.
