At least with a taxi, there are cameras and license numbers, etc.

I don't know about where you are, but there aren't cameras in taxis anywhere I've been. And with Uber and Lift the they know who the drivers are, and the passengers (they have to have a credit card on file). Unlike a taxi you get the driver's name and picture before he arrives. The truth is it's far more likely for the driver to be assaulted and robbed than the passenger in either venue. And since all the passengers are registered with credit cards it's much safer for the drivers than picking up anyone with a phone or flags off the street.

In San Francisco we are required to have digital audio and video recording in our cabs covering both interior and exterior. Uber etc have no such requirement.

I have driven both and feel safer in the cab due to that requirement, the different demeanor passengers have ina cab which looks feels and actually is more official, and our high visibility.

As a passenger you are safer ina taxi due to way better vetting, the above described cameras, and far better insurance coverage.

I won’t let my minor daughter take uber’s unless in a group.

Well that’s a good point.

Suffice it to say, I’m not a fan of pretty 17, year-old daughter getting into a car, driven by an adult male, no matter the person’s race.

That being said when my husband had a heart attack we had great experiences with Uber drivers. I was with her. :-)
