Fake News: Media, Democrats Distort Remarks to Target Jeff Sessions
Breitbart ^ | March 1, 2017 | By Joel B. Pollak

Democrats and the media are once again targeting Attorney General Jeff Sessions — this time, over allegations that he met twice with the Russian ambassador during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The Washington Post reports that Sessions met Sergey Kislyak once at a Heritage Foundation event in July 2016, where other ambassadors were also present. It also reports that Sessions met with Kislyak in his Senate office in September, in his capacity on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The hook on which the Post attempts to hang Sessions is that he did not disclose the meetings to the Senate when he was asked about “possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow.” Sessions’s spokesperson at the Department of Justice, Sarah Isgur Flores, says his answer in January was truthful because he was asked about “the Trump campaign — not about meetings he took as a senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee.”

The Post does not provide the full transcript of the question, from Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), and Sessions’s answer. Instead it summarizes the exchange in a way that makes it seem that Sessions was asked if there was any contact at all between the campaign and representatives of the Russian government.

In fact, what Sessions was asked about was sustained, ongoing communications — a core accusation in the dubious “dossier.”

Here, via C-SPAN, is the transcript:

Russian contacts? Ted Kennedy to Andropov re conspiracy to defeat Reagan re-election '84. Hillary hands over 20% of U.S. uranium to Russia for Foundation donation.

Clear that Franken was talking about the fake dossier and the campaign. Sessions responded about the campaign.

Early AM hours, I check in on CNN to what tripe they are spewing. ...Always good to keep up with what the enemy is doing.

They are relentlessly saying that Sessions lied under oath during confirmation hearings and that he met with the Russian Amb., “a spy”, a couple of times in the past year.

They knew this was going to be reported today. And so did McCain and his but boy. So CNN set this town hall up to give them a platform to advance the special prosecutor agenda.

And I read where Obama had all these intelligence snippets spread around to as many places possible within the various agencies before he left office to insure this coordinated effort would have ammo.

This is all based on some inartful questions asked by Sen. Franken (D-Incoherent) at Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing.

When it comes to understanding distinctions, Franken is ten thumbs. Sen. Sessions was not before the committee to answer for his activities as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, even if he met with 50 ambassadors..

Sessions answered Franken truthfully regarding his involvment with Pres. Trump’s campaign.

Just another Chicken Little, manufactured pearl-clutching moment orchestrated by Obama and the media.

This is the BIG story I woke up to this morning on the alphabet channel my local news is on. There were the USUAL suspects, the two butt buddies McCain and Graham, Nancy Pelosi and Chuckie Smuckie Schumer all calling for a special prosecutor to take out Sessions.

I AM SO SICK OF THIS RUSSIAN BULLSHIT!!!

Sessions needs to hurry up and arrest these child trafficking pedophiles!

But it is all just more “fake news.” A chance greeting at a public event, and a Senate meeting in the course of his official duties, do not add up to anything, and the full transcript — also omitted by the Times — makes it clear Sessions told the truth.

This is obviously an attempt by the Democrats and their allies in the media to further undermine the Trump administration. Any submission by any Republican administration ever for a special prosecutor or an independent prosecutor would be the equivalent of political Russian Roulette. Witness what occurred to Scooter Libby in the absurd Plame investigation. Note how Obama stonewalled all calls for independent prosecutors when his attorney general was meeting secretly with Bill Clinton. The Democrats know the danger of a special prosecutor and they were simply not going to tolerate one so long as they had power for investigation into the IRS or any cause. They had the advantage of the media covering for them whereas the Republicans have the media against them. Worse, the Republicans have quislings like John McCain and Lindsey Graham undermining what should be the Republican position.

This article is not "fake news" but it is part of a political witch hunt. It is an absurdity to dignify it with calls for a special prosecutor as McCain and Graham have done, the administration must at all costs Stonewall.

All that being said, Jeff Sessions as a senator, as a former attorney general, as a former federal attorney ought to have known better than to be sloppy in his testimony. Having rendered the testimony he should have fact checked everything he said and corrected the record by way of a written submission to the committee. He could have been in no doubt the malicious intent of the likes of Al Franken and he should have been better on his guard.

The Breitbart article opines that the transcript shows that Attorney General Sessions is telling the truth. It does not, it simply provides an alternative explanation which is enough, certainly enough to withstand any calls for a special prosecutor. The language in the Franklin question is ambiguous enough for the Attorney General to claim that he was telling the truth as he understood it. As to the written answer to the committee's question, the answer, as far as any evidence concerned, is true. Again offering enough exculpatory explanation to withstand any demands for a special prosecutor or even for a recusal by Jeff sessions.

The absurdity of this whole Russian affair outclasses even the absurdity of the Plame investigation. But the point is that the Democrats have demonstrated a singular ability to do grave damage to an administration on trumped up charges (no pun intended) and the Republicans have demonstrated a degree timidity that may be a hangover from Watergate. It is time to shake it off and ridicule the absurdity of the Democrats and label their campaign a compensation for Teddy Kennedy's treachery where real disloyalty with the Russians occurred.

As Bull Halsey said, "attack, repeat, attack!"

To make a long story short, if we didn’t need a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary’s use of an unsecured bargain basement bathroom server to keep and use for classified information and investigating the Clinton’s use of the State Department to enrich their personal foundation, then we sure as hell don’t need one for this.

***********************************************************

Really? Was not the question regarding Sessions contact (if there was any) in the specific context of whether the 2016 election was a topic of discussion? That is what I read in the quotes from the testimony.

Please explain your position that the Senator was not truthfully answering the question asked.

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of the political discourse in this country. Isn’t there something, anything better to write or read about than how divided this nation is politically? There is so much good in this country but the continuous bickering over non-important, trivial “bullshit” things makes it difficult to even look at or read the very distorted “news”. Think I’ll go shovel snow or go ice fishing.

This will ultimately fail.

And Mr Obama?

Payback is a bitch.

Now may be the time to appoint several special prosecutors. One to investigate Session and another to investigate Hillary.

I agree, however, the attacks must be much more powerful:

- A series of investigations on McCainiac and that faggy little Lindsey, esp. #PizzaGate.

- Bust Obama out, outright, for his 50 to 100 felonies, to include treason for supporting ISIS.

- Bust Clinton out, outright, for her 20 to 50 felonies, to include treason for release of SIGINT information.

Serious s***, not pattycake stuff.

Even the Whitehouse statement this morning is saying the timing is to distract from his speech.

I listened to this on NPR this morning. You are exactly right. There really is no “there” there regarding this story. Within the context of Franken’s question, he was answering absolutely correctly.

The good news is that this is apparently all they have. :)
