Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Trump’s presidency: ‘We are not experiencing the best of times’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a noted critic of President Trump, suggested that she doesn't believe the country is in good hands but said she is hopeful about the future.

“We're not experiencing the best of times,” Ginsburg said Thursday on BBC's “Newsnight,” though she did not comment directly about the president.

But, the 83-year-old jurist said the public's resistance to the new administration — on full display at last month's Women's March protests — has given her “reason to hope that we will see a better day.”

“A great man once said that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle; it is the pendulum, and when the pendulum swings too far in one direction, it will go back,” she told BBC.

“Some terrible things have happened in the United States, but one can only hope that we learn from those bad things,” she added, citing the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II as an example.

Ginsburg also defended the free press, the target of repeated attacks from the president, who has called the media “the enemy of the American People.” The justice said she reads both The Washington Post and the New York Times every day and believes that “reporters are trying to tell the public the way things are.”

Egad! She's alive and makes no sense whatsoever! Proof is there in her comments that she's slipped into dementia. Au contraire, Miz Ginzburg: things have NEVER looked more positive for the USA! We are finally moving AWAY from the legacy of the liberal capitalist monologue that is consuming every inch of nature and our ability to sustain life on Planet Earth! Liberalism is an existential threat to humankind, and planetkind!

She’s dying. Her cancer is back.

Trump will replace her.

We all will dance on her grave.

Ruthie, long past time to retire and enjoy what’s left of your mortal life.

Go before you do more damage to this country.

I agree that we’re not living in the best of times. For leftists. Good.

“We’re not experiencing the best of times,”

She’s right - In a way not intended.

It’s been hell since she and the other two liberal cows were confirmed.

Yes. This bitch needs to recuse herself from ANY proceeding involving the USA

Quite frankly, she ought to be impeached for bias.

I’ll bet she has to buy Red Bull in one gallon, industrial strength cans. She should knock it off with her “we” BS. WE ARE experiencing the best of times. Sorry Ruthie, you are not who WE are.

Yes, dumbass, I’m sure none of them ever would have sabotaged Americans. You SHJs didn’t learn anything from WWII did you?

It wasn’t coincidence that the USA escaped unscathed from internal traitors. The contempt I have for you is beyond description. 83 years old and obnoxious as hell. You are the Poster Bitch for age limits for Federal judges. GTH

One more sad suicidal uninformed person, tinkering with Leftist Socialist governance, failing to grasp anything related to history.

That’s just plain pathetic.

Who cares about her, but we have about 330 million other people who would be exposed if she had her way.

Not the best of times? You poor dear, not enough Stalin, Adolf, and Mussolini for you?

Tough!

Any legal precedence to have Justice Ginsburg recuse herself on any Trump-related cases since she has chosen open partisanship.

‘Very unjudicial.’

Ginsburg is in a bad situation. She should have retired while Obama was still POTUS, and allowed him to name her successor. She hung on, gambling on a Hillary win. Now Ginsburg has to grit her teeth and hope she can make it through another four years, AND count on Trump losing in 2020. The odds are against her.

I hope Trump gets to replace her and at least one other of the leftists, Sotomayor would be a good one to replace. If we could end Trump’s first term with a solid Conservative Court, then ten years later it would still be probably majority conservative, so long as no one else left. Many of these guys “grow” in office- get a hankering for MSM acclaim and participation in the elite cocktail parties..

“Some terrible things have happened in the United States, but one can only hope that we learn from those bad things,” she added, citing the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II as an example.

Supreme nonsense; how many Japanese were killed in the internment camps ? Seven ?

How many American POWs died in Japanese camps ?

Some historians and governments hold Japanese military forces, namely the Imperial Japanese Army, the Imperial Japanese Navy, and the Imperial Japanese family, especially under Emperor Hirohito, responsible for the deaths of millions, some estimate between 3,000,000[2] and 14,000,000[3] civilians and prisoners of war through massacre, human experimentation, starvation, and forced labor that was either directly perpetrated or condoned by the Japanese military and government

Overall description of the POWs - Number of Americans, other nationalities

Americans: 36,260 Military of whom 13,381 died as POWS (38.2%) plus 13,996 civilians of whom 1536 died (11%) [American Ex POW Assn]
Australians: 21,000+ Military of whom 8031 died as POWS (39%) [AWM)
British: 50,000+ Military of who 12,433 died as POWS (25%) plus over 25,000 Indian troops (death rate unknown) [IWM]
Dutch: 100,000+ Military of whom an estimated 25% perished Civilians: Estimated 250,000 Dutch civilians and other westerners in the Netherlands East Indies. Civilian death rate estimated at 15%.

Thirteen ships were sunk while transporting 15,712 POWs from Southeast Asia to Japan. Some of the ships sunk had no survivors. An estimated 10,720 prisoners died on these unmarked Hell Ships on the way to Japan.

A quick look at the State of Residence for POWs (that we have determined so far) shows the Top 5 States as: California, Texas, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, New York, and Illinois.
