BEIRUT — President Bashar al-Assad rejected the creation of safe zones for refugees and displaced people in Syria, an idea supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a transcript from an interview with Yahoo News released on Friday.

He signaled he would welcome cooperation with Washington in the fight against Islamic State, however, as long as the United States took a “clear political position” on Syria’s sovereignty and unity.

Assad has cautiously welcomed the new U.S. administration’s focus on fighting the jihadists, in which Trump has held out the possibility of cooperation with Damascus ally Russia.

Why would you think the Syrian Refugees are from Syria?

I wouldn’t let anyone create “safe spaces” for terrorists in my country, either.

I would hope that there is no moral equivalence between you and Bashar.

Given that we’re talking survival here, I suspect I have the same motivations Assad would: not getting my family killed and dying a horrible death myself.
“Safe Zones” would inevitably become sanctuaries for Assad’s enemies. He can’t allow them.
If the refugees want to be ‘safe’ from Assad, they need to submit and take his side.
Assad may be a bastard but he has a better humanitarian record than his enemies.

Nobody is safe in Syria Ukraine or anywhere else as long as THE USA continues using extremists to fight set up proxy wars to compete over economic interests

and to let die-hard Cold Warriors like McCain and Graham poke Putin

all at the expense of chaos, war and thousands of deaths and millions of refugees

“Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on his own people. He will never be respected by me.”

Sorry, but I’ll believe Assad over either Obama or the media, considering the PROPAGANDA we’ve been fed on every other aspect of this war...including who started it.

“If that were true then Syrians would be fleeing to Assad controlled territory instead of literally anywhere else in the world. “

They are, Damacus is FLOODED with refugees from the rest of Syria, particularly Aleppo. The so-called “Syrian refugees” are either from Iraq (mostly) or from just about anywhere else in the Middle East. They claim to be ‘Syrian’ to get preferential treatment and are not expected to have legitimate papers - which is why Trump singled out Syria for not wanting ANY REFUGEES - it’s no secret as to the posing as such.
