How about a 25% Tuition Tax on non-American students?
And maybe it should be paid by the college.
And while we’re at it let’s make them merit based.
No more affirmative action admissions.
I wouldn't call it all all "libertarian." its truly globalist/statist in nature. 1 million foreign students - some return to their countries, some remain in the USA, but they all are being homogenized into the globalist, consumerist, multi-culti technocrat culture, which is the dream of the left.
This definitely should be an issue for state colleges and universities. Private institutions should have the leeway to admit whoever they want. But our publicly supported colleges and universities should not be admitting foreigners and rejecting qualified in-state students.
Colleges play several games with this.
They take in foreign students on the promise their higher tuition will offset domestic tuition ... and then give the foreigners work study jobs to give them discounts on tuition (I witnessed this personally). This displaces Americans in both admissions and financial aid.
They intentionally give foreign students internships, residencies and other slots to keep them at the school and improve their odds of getting a visa, seeing it as a moral mandate. And this shuts out Americans from these programs.
They encourage foreign student enrollment, seeing it as both an indicator of their global citizenship status and marketing/prestige.
I don’t get it. Such foreign students generally pay the retail price for college, whereas Americans almost always get some package of scholarship/aid discount—in part funded by the full-load foreign students.
And, we have so many jillions of poorly qualified American students in college right now, I don’t see how “qualified” American students are being left out.
Lord knows there are enough taxes already in this country. How about getting the government out of “funding” education. Let people keep more of the fruits of their labor so they can afford things like whatever education they choose. Radical isn’t it?
Naaa...Americans are just blood bags to be fed upon by the parasites.
Because colleges hate America as it is currently constituted, and want to change it to an atheist totalitarian marxist collectivity. That’s why.
Defund-amentally transforms big G’mint.
I finished a graduate degree at a local private college. I was floored that half of the graduate business school students were from Saudi Arabia, many of whom spoke minimal English and all of the females wore hijabs or burkas. These students did not assimilate with the American students and the females were escorted to their classrooms by the husbands because they were not allowed to drive. And this was a Catholic college. Yet the college has the audacity to keep asking me for donations when they get zero alumni support from the Saudi students. For colleges, they have lost their way in providing an education first. It is all about tuition revenues. They could care less about standards.
How about otherwise academical-qualified Vets move to the front of the line, with disabled vets given first priority.
Right now we give unearned priorities (and full scholarships) to marginally qualified Blacks solely because their Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather picked up cotton and threw it on a wagon
Why don’t we focus our priority on the kid who picked up a live grenade last year and threw it out of the squad foxhole?
I understand that.
Such foreign students generally pay the retail price for college, whereas Americans almost always get some package of scholarship/aid discountin part funded by the full-load foreign students.
So VERY incorrect. It is the Americans who are paying full load and the foreign students that are getting scholarships and aid from the school. American students have to get loans.
And, we have so many jillions of poorly qualified American students in college right now, I dont see how qualified American students are being left out.
The schools where they have "poorly qualified" students is usually not the same one the foreign students are attending. In the cases that they are those "poorly qualified" are there for the exact same reason as the foreign students are. So the school can pat it's self on the back as to how perverse... oh sorry... I mean diverse... they are.
Also, illegal immigrant students do not have pay out of state tuition but American students from out of state do.
Should be a cap of 10% foreign students admitted to US universities. The universities may not go for it...but of course it is the US Government that hands out student visas! MAGA!
That’s crazy talk /S
How about the Feds getting out of the college/university business altogether? There are no “Federal Colleges”, or “Federal Universities”, only “State”. Let the states handle it! No more funding and Federal support!
Add one or two years to high schools, that would take care of the “core”, and by the time the students take off to a college for their “major”, they’ll be better prepared (and hopefully, a little more mature).
Students who want to go into the “trades”, could leave HS after 12 years, and go on to trade schools, or OJT. College-bound, stay for grades 13 and 14, and remain living at home. Much, much cheaper on the parents, and working students.
While I don’t have the stats on it, my suspicion is, most students who drop-out, or flunk, out, do iso in the first two years.
Who knows, the students may even have time to learn “cursive”.
Sounds good, but won’t matter in STEM until they fix H1B program.
Wow, if this were in effect, we wouldn’t have had a President Barack Obama.
(Whether he was a citizen or not, he entered college as an Indonesian)
