Your post reminds me of a story I read about Anatoli Tarasov, the legendary Soviet hockey coach in the 1960s and 1970s. He was very critical of American hockey but found our society fascinating. I'll paraphrase something he said (this might be very close to the exact quote) that captured the essence of both:

"You put men on the moon, you teach dolphins to do tricks in front of spectators, and you have dozens of different kinds of mayonnaise in the aisles of your grocery stores ... but your hockey players can't even pass the puck accurately to someone three meters away."

LOL.

With all due respect, Cruz had this scheduled for more than a week.

I have no problem with it; if he weren't steamrolling Sanders or otherwise destroying the left, I would have wanted him in the Senate chamber, but I'm happy with where he was.

The only reason I knew what was happening on the Senate floor at 8:00 in the evening was because of FR.

Me too; had just prepared for bed when I checked the site one more time, forced Mrs. C, who HATES watching Senate debates, to sit through Rubio, Schumer, Hatch, and a little of Klochubar before I got "the look" and switched to something less political on the tube.

I heard that Gorbachev had a similar reaction when he went to a grocery store in America. Even though he could have anything he ever dreamed of, the fact that the average American could do the same boggled his mind.

This event convinced him that we would win.

Trump needs to sign an Executive Order, forcing Congress onto the same health care as We The People. Then the repeal should go very smoothly.

And it was a wash. Both Senators were absent.

I feel rather silly having not noticed that, but then I don't think of Bernie if I can help it...

"So you've got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It's the craziest thing in the world..."

If Cruz wasn’t at the forum, neither would Sanders. The absence of both off-set each other in terms of that vote.

The Senate, like the President, can walk and chew gum at the same time.

When the Senate is in session, individual Senators often flit about, sometimes at one committee of which they are a member and sometimes at another, also bouncing back and forth between the Senate floor and committee rooms in order to cast votes. Of course, they are kind of tied down when they chair or are the ranking member of a committee holding a hearing, or when they are the manager of a bill before the Senate.

The Senate leadership orchestrates the three-ring circus, bearing in mind certain hard dates, and considering considering the probable outcomes of votes. In the case of Senator Sessions nomination, this meant holding his confirmation vote back until Betsy DeVos “played through.”

Today, Session will be confirmed, resigning his Senate seat, and the Governor of his state will officially begin the process of appointing his replacement. I suspect Session’s seat in the Senate will still be warm when it is again filled.

That’s easily forgivable. Sanders is like the crazy guy at the town park yelling at the pigeons.

What difference would it have made? Debating Sanders is more
important!

This is true, based upon being there in 2005.

A variation on that story it’s said “In Russia people wait for the bread”. In America , bread waits for the people”.

..we are on our fourth month w/o insurance and just dodged a $2000 fine. Premiums of $1000 per month is out of our league. I pray that this process of replacement does not go all year— or longer...

Besides, Ted’s debate also took Sanders’s vote for Warren out of the Senate. He thus did as much on theWarren issue by squishing Bernie on CNN as he could have by pairing Bernie’s vote in the Senate.
