In the midst of another graphic video of a brutal fight between teens at a Mississippi high school going viral, one teacher and a former student from have revealed how the bureaucracy apparently helps the regular mass brawls continue. New policies at Terry High School in Hinds County 'deter teachers' at the school from punishing children who are involved in violent fights, one teacher, who did not want to be publicly identified, told WLBT. The educator's comments come after the school was the scene of another vicious brawl on Monday that was caught on camera.

Another parting gift from Obama to the nation. Obama pushed the idea the black male student were disproportionately being punished so they are forcing schools to change their policies. The example above is the intended consequence.

A few years ago, Minneapolis passed a law a minority student could be punished without permission of the superintendent.

This is a huge problem in Wisconsin.

At a recent funeral of a high school class mate, we discussed our 7th grade teacher who’d slap us quite hard on the back of the hand with a ruler as a form of punishment.

We accepted it, said nothing to our parents. We knew to lay our hands flat on the desk when she started walking towards us with her death ray eyes glaring at her subject with ruler in hand.

About 30 years later she invited me to her home for a pancake breakfast. Very nice lady.

I do not think any of my HS graduating class ever wound up in prison. Today no teacher would dare do anything like that.

Amish and Southern Property Law Center - what could go wrong? She’s the SPLC what to actually help people other than their own guilty issues?

I once subbed in a junior high school in NYC, saw a kid in the hallway with a box cutter in his hand, and without saying anything I grabbed him by the wrist of the hand holding the cutter, put him in a headlock with my other arm, and told him to let go and give me that cutter immediately, after which I took him to the principal’s office.

After they dealt with the kid, I was told by both the administration AND by other teachers that I shouldn’t do something like that, but should simply report the possession of the cutter to someone in security.

I was also told not to get involved with breaking up fights, which I did anyway. I only lasted a few years before I decided to do something else with my life. The way these schools are set up, teachers who want to do something to stop the madness are not being supported.

It was my 6th grade teacher. Dumb as a box of rocks. She didn’t know how to do long division. I think I was the only one in the class who did. I demonstrated it on the chalk board and won her eternal loathing. So raps on the knuckles and a ruler slap on the back of my leg, on bare skin. And having to kneel for what seemed like hours but was probably about 15 minutes on a hard floor with nothing to balance on. I survived but I didn’t learn much.

Seriously? When students misbehaved in school in Mississippi back in the 70’s and 80’s, there was corporal punishment with a huge paddle. I lived in Mississippi as a kid and I remember the “Board of Education” (Nobody misbehaved in Coach’s class, btw) Have they eliminated the paddle? If so, yeah, they’ve got problems. “Spare the paddle and spoil the child.”

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I went to a public school in Pittsburgh and those teachers and principals didn’t fool around. Once I saw a Vice Principal break up a fight between two black kids by throwing them up against the wall and dragging them to his office. He was a Korean war vet and knew how to handle himself. We all knew not to tangle with him.

Yes, you have to actually go in to the belly of the beast to see how absurd it has become. I am a teacher too, but I teach online now. How could we agree to be in charge of children, but not be allowed to keep them safe?

My vice principal looked like a WWF wrestler, and was rumored to have a summer job as a prison guard. Nicest guy you’d ever want to meet, but you didn’t dare mess with him.

Obviously because protected minorities were doing things that deserved to be punished.

My brother teaches high school. He got in trouble for making a kid sand the desktop after carving his initials it.

He also took some heat when he caught half of his class cheating on a test. They all made identical mistakes.

There's that white privilege thing rearing it's ugly head - not enough white kids get to see the "fruits" of feral living.
