Very sad. Maybe Americans will walk on the moon again, but even in the Trump/Pence Era, I doubt it.
I knew a man who flew the chase plane for Apollo 17. That guy had a lot of stories to tell.

You were so fortunate to have known him in person.

He lives in Silver City, New Mexico, and spends some of his summer at his northern Minnesota lake cabin.
Schmitt is also involved in several civic projects, including the improvement of the Senator Harrison H. Schmitt Big Sky Hang Glider Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I was fortunate to meet and have a few drinks with Jack Swigert, the Command Pilot for Apollo 13. These guys are all bigger than life to me.
How many of those who walked on Mars are still alive? Someone should ask Sheila Jackson Lee. She might know.
That must be a very special memory.
Maybe it was the magic of the feelings I had during the early days of the space program. It seemed like men making miracles.
To this day, I have a link to the code the guidance computer used on Apollo 13. I guess I'm still just a kid when it comes to that stuff. It was nice to have heroes.
I’m sure Hollywood exaggerated the story, but considering your interest in the early space race era, you might think about seeing “Hidden Figures”. I found it an interesting story depicting an exciting time in the early days of NASA.
Charlie Duke, Lunar Module pilot of Apollo 16, lives just up the road.

Cernan and Stafford teamed up again on Apollo 10 with John Young in May of 1969, which was the last test flight before the manned lunar landings started with Apollo 11. Apollo 10 set the world speed records for a manned vehicle on its reentry to Earth, clocking just under 25,000 mph, which would get you from New York to LA in just over seven minutes.
