American arms don’t have to prevail for Hussein to accomplish his purpose if what he intends is a shooting war with Russia. If he orders a futile attack on a Russian border force and our guys get wiped out he will, of course, claim that the Russians attacked the American unit and ostentatiously order a major “mobilization” That operation is long obsolete and but the word is firmly linked to inevitibility of conflict.

Short of an attack on Russian troops I would think Putin could wait for seven more days. I can not believe he wants to get into a hot war with the US even if provoked.
Obama is not acting in a vacuum. Others can see he is getting more irrational as his term ends.
Small comfort, but he can not personally call up the air force or navy and launch an attack. He has to go through the chain of command. At some point someone could say no (to an unlawful order).
The problem is we (the general public) do not know what is really going on.

Desert Storm was the operation to attack Iraq, and it commenced on 1/15/1991 (it was preceded by Desert Shield, which was defensive in nature). There were approximately 700,000 US troops involved, and close to 1 million including our allies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_War

You are confusing operations. Oh, and the 500,000 troops of Desert Storm took about 5 months to get into place (from late August until the operation commenced).
In any case, Homobama’s deployment of roughly 3,000 troops will do nothing. There isn’t going to be a conflict between us and the Russians - not when Putin knows that in 7 days, 1 hour and 15 or so minutes, a rational actor is going to be in charge of the US.

Ukraine isn’t. Belarus is closely allied to Russia. Russia operates several military bases in Belarus.

I still think Hussein has coordinated with Iran to strike the U.S. with nukes right before the inauguration, and that barry will have plausible deniability in place about the whole thing.
